Job description

HEAD OF PERFORMING ARTS and DRAMA TEACHER

Permanent and Full Time

Required to start 1 September 2024

We are seeking to appoint to the post of Head of Performing Arts. This is an excellent opportunity for someone to lead and manage an exciting, vibrant and diverse team of staff and students that has recently moved much of its provision into purpose-built accommodation in our new Elms Building (including new music rehearsal rooms, drama performance theatre and music classrooms).

The current Head of Department (HoD) teaches a significant amount of Drama and therefore, external candidates will need to have experience teaching BTEC Performing Arts (acting route) and Drama A Level.

Curriculum organisation

Our curriculum provision is organised into three faculties. The Performing Arts department is part of the Faculty led by Neil Jones, with whom the HoD works closely to ensure effective provision. The Head of Department post currently attracts 5.5 hours weekly remission and is supported by a Department Assistant with 0.5 hours remission.

The Media, Film, Communications and Performing Arts Department

Performing Arts courses are popular choices at BHASVIC. The department currently teaches A levels in Dance, Drama & Theatre and Music, as well as BTECs in Performance (Acting Pathway) and Music. Department staff also organise and contribute to a number of exciting departmental and cross-college enrichment activities, which result in highly praised public performances of students’ work in the College Show and the Creative Arts Festival as well as at other points in the year. In addition, staff maintain a high level of industry contacts who often visit the college to provide excellent vocational enrichment experiences for students during the year.

The successful applicant will be offered a permanent full-time contract. The BHASVIC Corporation has adopted the conditions of service and salary scales applicable to sixth form colleges. The current Management Pay Spine for this post is Grade B1-3. The salary range for this grade is £48,128 to £51,413 depending upon management experience.
