Job description

Leading the range of Planning functions across Swindon Borough this role reflects the need for strategic thinking. The post holder will be the interface with senior leaders both inside and outside the organisation including elected Members. You will be provided with the opportunity to shape and mould service delivery, combining matrix management alongside the need to fully embed performance-driven change.

Your next role

You will assist both external investors and the Council in developing key projects through the strategic planning and transport system.

You will provide strategic leadership, management and development of a portfolio of strategic planning services in line with Council priorities and financial targets.

With your proven ability of leadership at a senior level within a Local Authority environment you will work in a collaborative manner with elected Members, the Council’s Corporate Board, other directorates, external and internal stakeholders, community members and other bodies that interact with this role.

With a relevant professional qualification, you will have a strong background in Planning and hold relevant technical knowledge with a proven track record of effective leadership, strategic thinking and change management, including supporting the empowerment of others to take ownership and accountability of outcomes. 

Being IT competent and proficient with digital processes, you will seek to drive digitisation across the service area and combine this with the ability to analyse data and intelligence to drive improvements whilst collaborating with partners and communities.

You must be fluent in the English language (as a requirement of Part 7 of the Immigration Act “for the effective performance of a customer-facing role”).

With a relevant professional qualification and membership, you will have a strong background in Planning with an understanding of the development industry and the importance of sound planning policy.
