The Role
The Head of PMO role is critical in supporting MAG to deliver the Chief Information Officer (CIO) Department’s Business Plan by ensuring Strategic or BAU (business as usual) Change programmes and projects are delivered on time, to cost and to agreed quality standards. You’ll be accountable for building, leading and sustaining a team of PMO analysts to govern a large portfolio of complex Strategic/BAU programmes and projects. As Head of PMO you will be the ‘front door’ to the CIO and the first port of call for all senior CIO stakeholders across MAG, and within CIO, for ALL change in MAG whether that is BAU Technology Change or Strategic Business Change. You will work closely with owners of the Airport Strategies and Business Plans as part of the annual financial planning cycle to translate the strategies and plans into a change delivery plan.
You’ll be responsible for translating demand into an overall CIO resource forecast, working with the CIO department leaders to plan and manage resource against budget. Across the CIO Dept, you will understand the change demand on all areas, and balance that with the supply of permanent and contingent resources to ensure the Business Plan can be successfully delivered. You will also provide financial management support for the Business Planning process.
You’ll also be the primary point of contact for the senior delivery team (directors, programme and project managers) providing guidance and support, and acting as a critical friend, to ensure delivery of significant business change confidently and in control. You will have considerable influence in the delivery of MAG’s Business Plan with the portfolio being governed overseeing c.£60m of annual investment spend, generating on average, £100m+ of EBITDA improvement in an average business plan period. You’ll also be responsible (on behalf of the PMO Director) to ensure the effective operation of all key governance forums critical to deliver the MAG Strategic/BAU Change Portfolio.

What will make you successful in this role?
You’ll have a strong track record and a minimum of 5 years’ experience of leading Portfolio Offices in a dynamic and fast paced environment; leading and developing high performing teams of PMO analysts; working in a similar projects/programmes delivery related role including evidence of portfolio risk management, plan management, resource management, finance & benefits management, business planning, demand management, dependency management, change control, assumptions and reporting; leading PMO teams to design, implement and embed change management governance frameworks with a continuous improvement mindset and supporting the integrity of the Programme/Project delivery plan through coaching and challenge of best practice. You’ll have significant experience of project lifecycle, project management principles, frameworks and methodologies, ideally through qualification in a recognised methodology (PRINCE2/MoP /APM). You’ll have knowledge and experience of working with industry leading portfolio management tools (PPM) increasing adoption and exploiting opportunities and to make recommendations based on associated key performance indicators. You’ll be to demonstrate financial understanding and be able to provide cash flow forecast views and to perform month end activities as well as work with Finance to address finance queries / support audits and so financial qualifications advantageous but not essential. You’ll have a demonstrable experience of the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels of business and seniority and find the balance between collaboration and holding people to account if standards are not met.
