Job description

Equal Right is a small organisation working on big global ideas. We focus on global redistribution of wealth and resources, including through an innovative climate justice proposal known as 'Cap and Share', new ideas on radical international taxation, and a world-leading proposal on global universal basic income. We are established as a not-for-profit campaign organisation (with a Charity Commission application underway), and were set up in 2016 in Manchester, UK. More information is available at equalright[dot]org

The Campaign Director will lead the organisation, drive forward our campaigns, identify and complete new initiatives, operationally manage the organisation and secure the organisation’s future through fundraising.

The role of involves taking ultimate responsibility for the Equal Right’s campaigns and network-building. Equal Right is a small non-profit headquartered in the UK with three part-time paid staff (two of whom live overseas). The organisation’s small size means that this role will be very hands-on, with you undertaking much of the campaign work yourself as well as coordinating a wider team. The role involves:

  • Leadership of the organisation and its campaigns division.

  • Strategy development as needed, building on our existing strategy.

  • Campaign planning and execution, especially of our main climate justice-related Cap and Share campaign, and of our smaller campaign on global tax justice. You may choose to develop and lead further campaigns in due course.

  • Coordination of our various networks, including internal groupings (the board of directors and our International Advisory Board) and external networks that we have co-created (the Cap and Share Climate Alliance and the Tax for Global Justice working group).

  • Representation of Equal Right in civil society, public and political forums, and participation in wider networks as required by our campaign strategies and plans.

  • Relationship-building and negotiations with our current main funder. We are approaching the end of the first year of what is planned to be a three-year (or longer) funding relationship. The second funding year of this grant is expected to begin in June 2024, with exact amounts of funding open to negotiation.

  • Further fundraising (from our existing funder or new ones) if you want to increase staff time or salaries, or build further campaigns.

  • Operational and financial management. We use some specialist help with finance.

  • Management of staff and volunteers, within our organisation’s flatter structure (you may choose to amend this structure, subject to the directors’ approval).

  • Other tasks as may be required to make the organisation successful.
