The General Medical Council (GMC) has three rewarding, senior-level opportunities in our Education and Standards Directorate to lead key programmes of work.

Vacancies

Head of Projects and Change (Permanent)

You will be responsible for providing strategic direction and leadership for projects and change, including systems development, across the Education and Standards directorate, your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading, managing and developing the Projects and Change section, overseeing its portfolio of work
  • Working with and on the Directorate Leadership Team on business planning, project governance, business prioritisation, capacity planning and risk management
  • Managing change, internally and externally, in the context of regulating medical education

Education Strategy Programme Manager (Fixed term contract until February 2026)

You will be responsible for developing and running a transformational programme that aims to review and revise the GMC’s approach to the education and training of doctors and Physician Associates (PA’s) and Anaesthesia Associates (AA’s) covering the review of standards, outcomes and guidance, your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the design and delivery of the Education Strategy programme, identifying the key stakeholders internally and externally and the work streams for development
  • Develop the governance arrangements for the programme, including management of the cross-GMC programme board and escalation of decisions as necessary to enable transformation
  • Act as an ambassador for the programme internally and externally, pushing delivery of key outcomes and putting in place mechanisms to drive decisions whilst identifying risks and issues

Head of MLA Operations and Transition (Fixed term contract until May 2025)

You will have overarching project management responsibility for the project to transition the Medical Licensing Assessment (MLA) from an implementation programme to a ‘business as usual’ function, your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the team tasked with managing the project to transition the MLA
  • Working in collaboration across the directorate and organisation and with external stakeholders; and
  • Ensuring robust internal governance for the transition, including reporting to senior colleagues.

These are hybrid roles between home working and office working, you’ll work 1 to 2 days a week in the office. You will be required to attend meetings in person in both London and Manchester. We may ask you to attend the office on additional days where necessary and during the induction period.
