Head of PSHE and Religious Education

Start date – September 2024

Salary – MPS/UPS + TLR

(Full time, Permanent)

At Insignis Academy Trust we are recruiting a Head of PSHE and RE for The Kingsbrook School. This is an exciting opportunity to join the founding staff body of this flagship new school in Aylesbury. 

The Kingsbrook School opened in September 2022 to 180 year 7 students, the school has grown by a year of entry in September 2023, and will be full in 2027-28. Located at the heart of the Kingsbrook Estate in Aylesbury, the school boasts state of the art facilities across the mainstream school and a purpose built Inclusion Unit for children with additional Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The successful candidate will have a unique opportunity to establish, lead and drive culture and practice as the school develops, as a key part of our energetic and passionate team. 

The Kingsbrook School requires all of its teachers to be well-qualified, enthusiastic professionals, who are eager and committed to supporting students’ education. This role would suit a candidate who already has leadership experience or is ready to take their first step into leading a department The successful candidate must have an excellent understanding of effective curriculum and pedagogy for the teaching of PSHE, Religious Education, RSE, and the associated statutory duties placed on schools, and the expertise, vision, and passion for leading others to develop outstanding PSHE and Religious Education provision across the mainstream provision and Inclusion Unit.

This role includes the line management of the teachers in the department, the strategic development of the subject area and the continued improvement of student’s attainment in the subject from KS3 to KS5. This role also requires a post holder who is passionate about developing the schools CPD offer and the fostering of a school based research culture. We also believe that parents are a key group that would benefit from regular academic information to ensure they understand the way and the information their child is learning.  

Candidates should:

●     have at least successful middle leadership experience working in a secondary school environment, or experience of contributing to the whole school leadership of PSHE and/or Religious Education.

●     have an expert knowledge of current research and theory into the most effective pedagogy and curricular to support student learning in PSHE and and/or Religious Education.

●     be a strong presence around the school, a clear strategic thinker who inspires others and can lead projects to conclusion, whilst at the same being ensuring systems, processes, routines and communication are effective and adhered to within the school

●     should clearly demonstrate their ability to communicate positively with students, parents, staff and governors

●     will be able to demonstrate the ability to effectively line manage different curriculum areas and teams

●     may have a good track record of working in collaboration with other schools and the Local Authority. The for the role outlines the initial expectations of the successful candidate although this will be adapted to reflect the needs of the school and skillset of the successful candidate.
