Head of Security -Bluewater

Salary: Competitive

Purpose of the Role:


Reporting directly to the Soft Services Director the Head of Security is accountable for the overall management of physical, people and preventative security for Mitie and their client.


To oversee the development and implementation of appropriate and fit-for-purpose strategies, systems, policies, processes and procedures; assessment of risk across all of the above aspects providing specialist advice through several channels; ensuring that security arrangements meet all corporate, stakeholder and regulatory requirements in a cost effective, safe and business ethical manner.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To provide a safe and secure environment for the key stakeholders - customers, clients and colleagues - by ensuring the smooth and effective day-to-day running of all aspects of the security department.
  • Act as principal adviser to clients on all aspects of Security and provide expert input at a strategic level on security operations, commercial crime prevention, due diligence, training and security awareness
  • Maintain and enhance corporate security polies (including training doctrine) and ensure that all employees and stakeholders are fully briefed on and compliant with the policy.
  • Deliver strategic advice on effective management of Security operations. Identify impacts on physical and operational security of any changes, audit findings or regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct periodic reviews of Security programmes, policies and procedures to protect the entire spectrum of the company's assets from people and property to information and reputation
  • Support an audit programme for the review of physical, technical and operational security controls and provide guidance on suitable security precautions to detect, delay, deter and where possible deny attempted illegal access to the facilities;
  • Analysis of the level of training required for employees, ensuring that training remains relevant and effective.
  • Forge strong relationships with stakeholders.
  • Advise on personal security to management, staff and visitors, Provide staff with security briefings and training.
  • Development of Security awareness among staff; oversee security training for employees.
  • Continually monitor, gather, collate, analyse and report intelligence from regional, national and international sources, including (but not limited to) activism, terrorism, hostile reconnaissance and insider risk.
  • Continuous review of regional, country and local threat assessments, identifying specific threats to operations and assessing the impact and likelihood of them materialising.
  • Devise and deliver a Security Strategy that balances emerging business priorities within an ever-changing security environment
  • Develop and promote the application of consistent security standards that achieve a balance between delivering pragmatic and cost effective security whilst delivering an exceptional guest experience at the core of all we do.
  • Work cross-functionally with senior leadership, heads of department and the Service partners to deliver a secure asset and safe environment.
  • Bring innovation through new initiatives, based on analysis of existing data (performance against KPIs and customer feedback) to the service delivery through constant review and against best in industry.
  • Help drive change by communicating findings in the appropriate forums.
  • To lead, manage and develop an effective Security team including performance, delivery, scheduling, monitoring, reporting, selection and training.
  • Ensure consistently exceptional quality and standard of Security service delivery through continuous monitoring and review and creation of continuous improvement plans
  • Ensuring all operational objectives are delivered on time and in accordance with the requirements of the business.
  • Attend regular meetings with the management team aligning performance with business objectives, strategic plans; provide KPI status, service delivery and commercial performance.

Experience:

Security management underpinned by commercial experience within the retail industry – at least 5 years at senior management level

A demonstrable track record in driving security and innovation

Corporate security experience of managing security personnel, key stakeholders, guests, retailers, clients and colleagues and overseeing operational security, asset protection and crisis management and support business continuity

Experience of reviewing practices and processes and implementing change

Strong commercial awareness

Understanding of ‘business risks' associated within the sector.

Experience of delivering training would be beneficial.

Skills & Abilities (Competencies)

You will be able to demonstrate the skills and experience to develop key security policies and procedures specific to Bluewater.

You will possess a detailed understanding of strategic security matters and will require a broad appreciation of service delivery to clients, retailers, guests, and colleagues.

You will be able to demonstrate either an established influencing network within the retail sector or at least a comparable network in another commercial environment.

Understanding or experience with physical security systems and technology utilised at major facilities, security crisis manning and contingency planning experience.

To succeed in this role, you will need to have a well-balanced risk management approach and a willingness to challenge accepted security methodologies.

You will have previous experience of introducing security innovation and consistency.

The ability to foster a collaborative stakeholder approach to achieve strategic goals in a manner consistent with the Bluewater experience initiatives and standards.

Your resourcefulness and ability to efficiently manage and complete multiple tasks simultaneously is key to this role
