Job description

Join us as our Head of Small Business Lending

  • We’ll look to you to set the strategy, and drive and deliver the end-to-end lending business from our UK SME customers and lead the full risk and control agenda for Business Banking & International Retail (BBIR)
  • As one of the senior leaders on the BBIR Management team, you’ll manage and oversee all aspects of the wider BBIR risk and controls activity
  • This is your opportunity to challenge your skillset by taking on a senior leadership position, and being one of the bank’s key leaders for our SME customers

Day-to-day, you’ll create, deliver and drive the Small Business Lending strategy for our SME customers to build a sustainable customer business that delivers market share and excellent customer outcomes and generates long-term future returns for our bank.

Alongside this, you’ll coordinate all activities to create a single strategic and operational plan for lending, including in relation to our Risk, Customer Propositions & Delivery, Digital, Technology, Marketing, Data & Analytics teams and other partners as appropriate.

Your top priorities will include:

  • Working with our Risk function to align our strategy and customer outcomes with an appropriate risk appetite and limits that support market share and customer outcomes
  • Supporting the delivery of financial and customer measures and colleague and risk targets to build a sustainable and flexible business model to meet the needs of our UK SME customers
  • Engaging with internal and external stakeholders to capture and understand market insights and trends to evolve our strategy and offerings
  • Representing our bank at key internal and external events and coordinating risk and controls activities across BBIR to ensure an understanding of our current proposition

To be successful in this role, you’ll need a background in the banking industry and a regulatory and commercial environment, especially in relation to lending and financing small and medium-sized business customers.

In addition, you’ll need experience of driving excellent customer propositions, sustainable financial returns, change and strategic leadership and an understanding of how to deliver large-scale change, including technology and innovation in a customer-facing role.

Furthermore, you’ll need:

  • Knowledge of relevant legal policies, regulatory and statutory obligations and risk management
  • An understanding of how to apply risk management disciplines
  • Experience of leading large and diverse professional teams and the ability to coach and support others and manage in matrix environments
