Role: Head of SRE (Interim)
Location: UK- London Bridge (1 day per month in the office otherwise fully remote)
Rate: Negotiable (Dependant on skills and experience)
IR35: Outside
La Fosse Associates are working with an exciting UK-based bank who are looking to add a Head of SRE to their cloud function.
Leading the Site Reliability Engineering team, the Head of SRE will be responsible for the performance of a team of circa 8 engineers who are responsible for infrastructure and platform used by the Bank, with a particular focus on operational resilience and information security.
Your role as Head of SRE:
* Line Manager – Responsible for the line management, performance and work allocation of a team of second line engineers.
* Reporting / Jira / BAU – Effective and on time Management of ticket allocation for the SRE team as well as weekly monthly and yearly Reporting.
* Strategy and Architecture – keep abreast of relevant new technologies, security threats and regulatory changes to support the Site Reliability strategy and target Architecture
* Teamwork Documentation and Development – document and share specialist knowledge with other members of the team, including delivering training sessions when required as well as taking responsibility for all relevant documentation (updates, storage and roll out).
* Service Continuity – Take ownership of support and maintain of company DR environment to deliver agreed RTO, RPO and MAO targets, including supporting BCP activities and regular testing of DR and BCP.
* Service Levels – understand the Service Catalogue and deliver to agreed SLAs, including working with relevant third-party suppliers to restore service and escalate when required.
* Security – ensure high levels of security and assist in patching and vulnerability management of the platform to meet company approved information security policies and procedures, which includes PCI-DSS compliance and NIST-CSF.
* Lifecycle Support – support management of IT assets to ensure they are secure and fully supported, including Patch and Vulnerability management to agreed standards. Support upgrades or replacements prior to end of life, to avoid increased risk or service interruption.
* Incident Support – configure and respond to monitoring alerts for issues with any devices, supporting incidents 24x7 (via paid team On-call rota) to recover service as quickly as possible and within agreed RTO and RPO, escalating when required.
* Problem Resolution - support the PIR process and provide recommendations to avoid future incidents, including timely delivery of agreed solutions.
Qualifications, skills and experience desired:
* Experience as a line manager of a team of SRE’s or equivalent, ideally in a Financial services environment
* Good verbal, written communication and interpersonal skills
* Experience with CI/CD pipeline technologies and tools like Octopus, Jenkins, Ansible, Terraform, Packer, GitHub
* Application Log Management tools like Elastic / Logstash / Kibana, Admin and Management
* Message queue technology, like RabbitMQ, IBM MQ
* Strong experience in Windows Server architecture design, configuration and troubleshooting techniques including: Windows 2012/16/19/22; Active Directory; Group Policy, DNS; Certificate Services; IIS, DFS
* Office 365 and Windows 10 administration
* Windows automation through PowerShell scripting and other tools
* Experience and ability to achieve and maintain PCI or similar security standards (e.g. PCI-DSS, NIST-CSF or ISO 27001)
