Head of Translational Partnerships
Natural Environment Research Council (NERC)
Location: Polaris house, Swindon
Grade: UKRI - Band F
Salary: GBP54,043 to GBP60,048 per annum (depending on qualifications and experience).
Hours: Full-time / 0.8 Part Time
Contract type: Permanent
You will play a key leadership role in driving the implementation of NERC's Green Finance agenda, contributing to portfolio development, long-term strategy, and partnerships. This role is situated within the Interdisciplinary, Programmes, Design & Management (IPDM) team, within NERC's Strategic Partnerships Directorate.
Your responsibilities will also encompass overseeing the delivery and post-award management to achieve planned outcomes for NERC's GBP40M Changing the Environment programme. As well as various translational research initiatives, with a primary focus on the emerging 'green finance' portfolio and the Regional Impact from Science of the Environment programme. Collaborating with the Associate Director (AD) for IPDM you will support the development and implementation of the strategic partnerships with the four Changing the Environment Higher Education Institutions (CtE HEIs), managing NERC's relationships with these new partners. In this collaborative environment, you will work closely with colleagues across the Strategic Partnerships Directorate and other key roles, including Heads of Clean Growth, Business Partnerships, Policy Partnerships, and Community Engagement. Reporting to the AD, Interdisciplinary Programmes, Design & Management, this role also involves line management responsibilities for up to two staff members.
Leadership responsibilities
You will provide individual and collective leadership within the team, Strategic Partnerships (SP) Directorate and more widely across NERC, UKRI, and external partners.
Delivery responsibilities
You will be responsible for the planning, delivery and resourcing of relevant UKRI/NERC priorities and outcomes, and for providing evidence of successful delivery. Your authority will derive from your portfolio knowledge, including broader understanding of environmental science and key partners.
PERSON SPECIFICATION:
Essential Criteria
Domain expertise: Knowledge of environmental research, and/or applied environmental research, partners and emerging opportunities in environmental science
Able to build and maintain strong partnerships and working relationships with a range of stakeholders at all levels; and able to thoughtfully navigate complex organisational and stakeholder landscapes
Confident in using a solution-focused approach to create positive outcomes where no precedent exists
Proven skills and experience in monitoring and evaluation to inform strategic decision making and demonstrate impact
Experience of commissioning and delivering funded research and innovation programmes in partnership with public and private sector organisations
Able to produce concise, high quality, successful strategic investment cases, ideally with experience of HM Treasury and BEIS guidelines
Able to provide high quality written and verbal advice suitable for use by executive and senior level decision makers
Demonstrable experience of sound budget management and planning
Experience of line management through times of ambiguity and uncertainty to deliver effective outcomes
