The Opportunity:

The main purpose of this role is to provide leadership to SRUC’s Veterinary Surveillance Team, and associated activities within SRUC’s School of Veterinary Medicine (SVM).

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Lead on engagements with Scottish Government, including responsibility for the Veterinary Advisory Service (VAS) Contract and other stakeholders.
  • Lead SRUC’s Veterinary Services Post-mortem and Veterinary Hub activities as an established respected sector within the SVM, ensuring maximum integration across the SVM’s administrative, educational, consultancy and research colleagues.
  • Oversee skills and CPD activity within Veterinary Services and across the wider SVM, ensuring full integration of CPD programmes across the SVM and wider SRUC skills networks.
  • Lead and coordinate Veterinary Investigation Officer (VIO) training including oversight of documentation and training opportunities such as induction days, Clinical Club sessions, Post-mortem discussion clinical clubs and VIO Harmonisation events.
  • Oversee SRUC’s Veterinary Surveillance Intelligence Unit (VSIU), including liaison with EPIC and Scottish Government.
  • Ensure efficient and reliable veterinary service to clients including testing, advisory and consultancy services in compliance with the requirements of ISO 17025.

Significant travel within Scotland e.g. visiting each of the six SRUC Veterinary Hubs plus the central analytical laboratory on at least a monthly basis.

Minimum Qualifications:

To be considered for this role, you should possess qualifications, or equivalent skills and experience, at SCQF Level 10 or above e.g. Veterinary degree or equivalent qualifications and/or experience in a relevant scientific area, and you should be a member of the RCVS (Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons).
