Head Registered Veterinary Nurse

Biscot Mill Veterinary Centre, Luton

Salary up to £38,000 depending on experience plus a relocation allowance up to £2,500.

Here at Biscot Mill Veterinary Centre, we are looking for a Head Veterinary Nurse with a great level of practical skills and an ability to work alone and as part of a team. This busy but rewarding role will suit a dynamic person with leadership experience that is looking for a new challenge or would suit an experienced Nurse looking to take the next step in their career.

Our nurses work across all nursing activities including anaesthesia and theatre, diagnostics including radiography and laboratory work, inpatient duties and nurse consultations; in addition to assisting our Veterinary Surgeons during procedures and consultations.

As part of your role as Head Veterinary Nurse, you would also be responsible for:

  • Managing the nursing team and nurse rota.
  • Assist with supervising Student Nurses +/- clinical coach training.
  • Entering the rota onto Dayforce & making adjustments when necessary.
  • Approving holidays/toil/overtime.
  • Assisting with covering holidays & sickness when necessary.
  • Making sure the ops list and diary runs smoothly.
  • Checking stock levels and ordering.
  • Maintenance of equipment, organising repairs if equipment breaks and keeping up to date with service records.
  • Ensuring SOP's are adhered to & job lists are completed.
  • Liaising with the clinical director & practice manager.

Our nursing rota consists of working 40 hours per week over 4 or 5 days plus 1:3 Saturday mornings. The shifts are between 8:30am-7:30pm with Saturdays being from 8:30am-12:30pm. Out of hours is not required.

We are a busy small animal town practice, led by our Clinical Director, Sheri, with a progressive attitude that takes pride in the high standards of care that we provide. We have invested in dental x-ray and a new dental suite, alongside the usual gadgets such as digital x-ray, ultrasound, tonopen, multiparameter monitoring equipment, blood haematology and biochemistry, bair huggers and blood pressure machines. Being in Luton we are close to the airport with fast links to London and motorways.

Our Nurses work closely with our Vets and Support staff to ensure the best possible care is provided. Our Nurses are well respected and fully supported. You will be encouraged to pursue special interests and CPD. We are a Training Practice so encourage and support Nurses to be involved in Nurse training. We pride ourselves in encouraging Nurses to complete schedule 3 procedures.

Within our vet team, we have interests in cardiology and exotics and would welcome other areas of interest in our new team member. Within the nursing team, we have interests in dentistry and nurses' clinics. We see a wide variety of cases and have the support of local referral centres. We have regular team meetings to ensure that everyone has a voice and we can move forward collectively.
