Job Title: Head Theatrical Costume Cutter
Location: Olney (Milton Keynes)
Salary: £26,000 to £29,000 (dependent on experience)
Job type: Full time - Permanent (37.5h a week)
Reporting to: Workroom Supervisor
Department: Creative Studio

About the Role:
James Maciver Costumes is looking for a creative individual who can translate the Costume Designer's ideas and drawings into real clothes, in consultation with both the Designer and the Workroom Supervisor. They will be required to work closely with a team of Creative Costume Makers / Machinists or independently on specific projects assigned to them. The role will be based at the creative studio in Milton Keynes and be working closely with the pattern department and responsible to the Head of Costume Operation. We are looking for someone with previous experience of working in a similar studio / home environment who can confidently perform the key duties and responsibilities required.
This job is Monday to Friday - 37.5 hours per week
Duties & Responsibilities:
To be responsible for the cutting of all Theatrical CostumesTo follow working notes and drawings / instructions relating to the makeup of thegarmentsExperience in bulk cuttingEnsure accuracy and precision in cutting fabric piecesInspect fabric flaws and defects before cuttingOrganize and maintain inventory of fabrics and order stocks.Measure and cut fabric according to specified dimensions and patterns using electricrotary cutters and scissorsKnowledge of sewing techniques and fabricsExperience in using electric cutting toolsTo ensure workspaces and fabric storage areas are kept organized and tidyComplete company cutting sheet and ensure they are up to date with all informationdocumentedEnsure safe keeping of all patterns and block patternsTo follow costume design specifications, seam allowances and details that areindicated on the design sheet and patternsTo regularly meet to plan and update the workroom supervisor regarding the daily /weekly workloadEnsuring that all sewing machine repairs are reported promptly to the workroomEnsure that all paperwork and invoices are kept safe and shared with the OfficeTo communicate any questions / concerns to the workroom supervisor upon projecthandover ensuring maximum productivityAdvance knowledge and understanding of drafting patterns and cuttingTo ensure all working notes / photographs are documented on the design sheet.Swatches to taken and documented along with any cutting lay detailsEssential Skills & Qualifications:
Advanced knowledge in construction methodsExcellent finishing skills and a great attention to detailKnowledge and experience of handling a wide range of fabrics including woven, lycra, knit and chiffonExperience in working meterage when working a pattern lay for cuttingMinimum of 2 years' experience of working within the garment making/ costumemaking industry, with a minimum of 1 year in industryUnderstanding of garment constructionProven track record of making garments and costumes in a professional workroomAbility to work with due regard to Health & SafetyDesirable skills and qualifications:
Good knowledge of basic Health & SafetyCollege degree in pattern makingBenefits:
