Maynards Green School is in a small rural village, just south of Heathfield, a market town famous for its cuckoo fair. The school benefits from being in the heart of the countryside, surrounded by trees and backing straight onto the cuckoo trail – a 14-mile paved trail that runs from Heathfield to Eastbourne, as well as being close to public woodland, footpaths and 20 minutes from the beach.

A large majority of our 200 plus children come from Horam, a large village 10 minutes’ walk away. There is a strong sense of village community, and we utilise our location to expand the children’s horizons through local visitors and trips out. Outdoor learning is also actively encouraged.

Our vision is for our children to have the confidence, skills and attitude to become responsible citizens who can achieve their potential. This vision is underpinned by our 6 values: Respect, Resilience, Responsibility, Kindness, Honesty and Courage. We are seeking an individual who shares our passion for education and our vision and values, to ensure that we are the school of choice for local families.

Our new Headteacher will provide professional and strategic leadership and management for the school that builds upon the exceptional work of our retiring current Headteacher. As we approach a new chapter in our journey, we are enthusiastic about the opportunities that lie ahead, in ensuring continued outstanding education for all its pupils and high-quality standards of teaching and learning.

Fundamental to this will be the requirements to:

  • Develop and nurture our dedicated and talented staff.
  • Maintain the highest standards of teaching and support for children.
  • Work collaboratively with the local community.
  • Build on our progress towards external awards and statuses.
  • Be forward thinking and open to exploring innovative possibilities for the school’s future growth and development, including potential collaborations or partnerships.

Community is the golden thread that runs through our school and as Headteacher you will play a pivotal role in ensuring a cohesive and happy school, growing the community, one child at a time. Your leadership, dedication, vision and innovative ideas will shape the future of our school and contribute to the growth and success of every child in our community.

The interview process will provide an opportunity for us to learn more about you, your vision for education, and how your leadership style aligns with the values of our school.

We encourage you to explore further the unique qualities of Maynards Green, our commitment to excellence, and the unparalleled support we offer to both our pupils and staff. Please arrange a visit to our school to experience the special learning environment and meet some of the wonderful pupils, staff and governors.

Please contact the school office (Tel:01435 812622; Email: office@maynardsgreen.org) to book an appointment, or if you need any support to enable you to participate in the recruitment process. We very much look forward to meeting you.

Please note that recruitment packs for this vacancy will only be provided directly to an individual considering applying to our school for this opportunity.  This school does not enter into business with Recruitment Agencies, or other commercial organisations, on behalf of their clients seeking employment.

This post is covered by the Childcare Disqualification Regulations 2018.

The school will need to ensure that they are not knowingly employing a person who is disqualified under the 2018 Regulations in connection with relevant childcare provision. Accordingly, the successful candidate will be required to demonstrate to the school, by completing a self-declaration form as part of the pre-employment checks process, that they have not been disqualified under the 2018 Regulations.

If the preferred candidate is found to be disqualified under the 2018 Regulations, the offer of employment will be subject to the application by the preferred candidate to Ofsted for a waiver and the receipt of a waiver from Ofsted.

Maynards Green is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We will ensure that all our recruitment and selection practices reflect this commitment. All successful candidates will be subject to Disclosure and Barring Service checks along with other relevant employment checks.
