Job description

Location - London or Winchester (minimum 40% in-office with Tuesday as a team day)

In 2020 LCP launched our Heath Analytics practice, providing analytical and research services for organisations across the life sciences and healthcare industries. Our team brings together clinicians, statisticians, epidemiologists, health economists, bioinformaticians and health data scientists alongside our established actuarial, analytics and technology teams to deliver new solutions for the fundamental challenges in health.

Our team’s mission is to help move health systems from importers of illness to exporters of health and to support our clients to deliver value to patients. We have already developed a track record for leading approaches to real world evidence generation, health economic modelling, Discovery Science and combining these services.

We launched our Discovery Science services with an initial focus on Integrated Omics in 2023 with clients across the pharmaceutical and healthcare investment sector, leveraging LCP’s heritage of Investment advisory services to Defined Benefit Pension Schemes and more recently, Global Investors. We have developed both the approach and a state-of-the-art cloud computing environment to conduct analysis on the growing wealth of omics data. This has allowed us to deliver analysis at scale in a way we believe is market leading across several use cases including drug target validation. We are now broadening this service to a Discovery Science offer, and recruiting for a Discovery Science Lead to lead the client offering alongside joining the leadership team of our Health Analytics department.

Joining us as Discovery Science Principal and service lead, you will develop new services and client offerings with examples of current client projects including:

  • Drug target validation including ‘genetic due diligence’ for healthcare investor clients to assess likely efficacy for pre-specified clinical conditions and explore potential broader therapeutic opportunities using Mendelian Randomization alongside other techniques
  • Pipeline planning analysis combining genetic and real world datasets to provide population and market size estimates and insights to inform research, development and commercial strategy
  • Providing strategic recommendations for client clinical development programs
  • Supporting early phase clinical development programmes through leveraging the genomic and broader omics data
  • Identifying drug target specific mediating mechanisms to target therapies according to highest likelihood of responding alongside identifying and prioritising novel targets
  • Working with other service areas (e.g. Evidence Generation) to leverage genomic and other omic data to support the evidence generation needs of clients in the pharmaceutical and biotech industries

What skills, experience and qualities will you have?

  • Substantial and demonstrable experience in the Discovery Science sector, evidenced by relevant scientific publications with specific expertise in geonomics, clinical medicine, consultancy, life sciences and/or academia, with a track record of delivering innovative solutions to clients
  • A relevant PhD (Genetics, Epidemiology, Biostatistics) is desirable
  • A track record of delivering innovative solutions and leading teams in delivering high quality work in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent grounding in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g. geonomics) with a desire to apply quantitative skills and rigorous science to solving problems for clients across the life sciences
  • Experience in AIML for drug discovery applications is desirable but not essential
  • Excellent track record in prospecting and business development
  • Excellent communication skills alongside the ability to present complex issues to others
  • Comfortable leading on day-to day project activities and managing the workload of junior team members as part of a small, dynamic and growing team
  • Initiative and creativity
  • Commitment to producing high quality work for clients
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Experience of programming (e.g. R, Python) is desirable but not essential

What will you be doing?

Driving the business forward with new services, thought leadership and proposals by:

  • Leading and growing the Discovery Science offering into new markets and new services through extending the capabilities of the Discovery Science team and leveraging your expertise and track record
  • By taking advantage of our early success delivering our Mendelian rationalisation based services to clients across biotechnology and investment sectors, you will lead the strategy to grow and deliver the same services to a wider client base alongside new, complimentary omics consultancy services to similar clients
  • Generating new opportunities through growing existing clients and early engagement with prospects across the biotech, pharma and/or healthcare investment sector
    • Lead on developing proposals and progressing client opportunities; Coordinating delivery of proposals with support from Health Analytics leadership colleagues and Health Analytics BD team
    • Contributing to thought leadership, including relevant and high impact scientific publications to position LCP’s Discovery Science service as distinctive thought partners to our clients and prospects

Delivering excellent client service in existing service areas by:

  • Leading on the delivery of client projects including being the primary contact for client management and accountable for efficient project delivery
  • Managing project teams including coordination of study design and scientific leadership, expecting most projects to be for clients in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and investment sectors and many projects that you will lead will be working across service area groupings/teams
  • Acting as a Subject Matter Expert on projects and engagements across the breadth of the Health Analytics department and LCP’s wider services

As a member of the Health Analytics Leadership team you will:

  • Lead the Discovery Science team covering successful execution of client projects alongside development of junior team members to enable scalability of the team and offering
  • Actively contribute to the development of the team and service offerings
  • Line manage Discovery Science team members
  • Supervise the content and approach to training and development for Discovery Science across the Health Analytics department
