OPRA and OPU specialises in caring for Older People with the wider multi-disciplinary team, with a view to aim to discharge people home safely and quickly with wider services involvement if required. We have a rapid assessment area to assess patients from the emergency department, and also an inpatient ward for those patients that require a hospital stay for treatment prior to going home.
Health Care Assistants are responsible for providing a range of personalised care for patients under the guidance and supervision of a registered nurse including:
- assisting patients with personal hygiene,
- toileting,
- use of continence aids,
- catheter care,
- measuring patient input and output,
- support patients nutritional and hydration needs,
- moving and handling,
- use of mobility appliances,
- correct patient positioning,
- ensuring patient safety,
- taking specimens
- observing patients for changes in condition.
