HCA Outpatient
One Healthcare has an opportunity for an experienced Health Care Assistant to join within a small friendly Outpatient team. To assist the qualified nurses to care for patients following surgical, investigative or medical procedures in line with national guidelines, hospital policies and best practice standards.
Working Hours: 37.5 hours, Mon to Fri, some Saturdays as required
Salary: Negotiable dependant on skills set and experience

HCA Outpatient
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Support RGNs in the implementation of an agreed plan of care with the patient.
- Help promote and maintain a caring, supportive environment focused on meeting the needs of the patient/relatives/carer, working collaboratively
- with other departments to achieve this.
- Look after the physical comfort of patients, for example helping them with activities of daily living.
- Take basic observations such as blood pressure and temperature, height and weight, utilising the early warning score system as per hospital policy and escalate appropriately to the trained nurse.
- Listen and talk to patients, helping them to feel supported and safe.
- Assist with keeping the department clean and tidy, for example cleaning of equipment, adhering to infection prevention and control policy and hospital procedures at all times.
- Keep supplies and equipment in order, assisting in the maintenance of stock levels.
- Maintain contemporaneous patient records including patient pathways and the relevant IT reporting systems are up-to-date and accurate ensuring countersigned by a trained nurse.
- Chaperone as of when required.
- Participate in basic wound care management as required.
- Deal with any patient/relative complaints at the time if possible however escalate to appropriate member of staff if need be.
- Report complaints, compliments and untoward incidents via Datix as per hospital policies and best standard practice.
HCA Outpatient
Qualifications
- Minimum GCSE education or equivalent
- NVQ Level 2/3 in Health & Social Care or equivalent preferred.
- Phlebotomy Training (Essential)
Experience:
- Some Health Care experience in a hospital environment
- Competence in the following areas: phlebotomy and undertaking ECGs
Skills:
- Caring, patient and customer focused
- Basic computer skills
- Comprehensive written and verbal communication skills
Desirables:
- Experience in the private sector
- Enthusiasm for cross functional working within different departments.
