Job description

We are seeking a Health Information and Services Manager (Nutrition and Charity Sector) to join our team at Farnborough overseeing a team of 2 and reporting into the department Director. The role would suit a candidate who would like to utilise their educational qualification or work experience gained within the nutrition, dietetics, food technology, biomedical science, medicine, life sciences, nursing, epidemiology, biochemistry or related sectors in an office based role. We are a leading organisation within a nutrition related sector operating as a charitable organization, providing advice, Information And support to our members across the UK. We can offer you the chance to join a friendly team working Mon to Fri 9am to 5pm and allow you to utilise your Degree and relevant work experience in our specialist field. We can offer a mainly home based role with once a month on site at our office in Farnborough, free parking with a salary up to £40k annually and 25 days holiday.
The Health Information and Services Manager oversees the creation and upkeep of health-related resources for the charity, managing a team of Information Officers. This role involves evaluating resource effectiveness, staying updated on clinical practices, and overseeing PIF tick accreditation. The Health Information and Services Manager also tracks allergy sector trends, fosters relationships with researchers and healthcare professionals, and identifies policy opportunities. Active participation in conferences and exhibitions is key for promoting the charity's work and engaging stakeholders, as is enhancing the relationship with allergy clinics.
The main duties of the role will be as follows:-

  • Strategically oversee and guide the production and maintenance of the charity’s Health Information, courses, factsheets, helpline and website.
  • Alongside the Communications Manager, develop a system to ensure that all communications are factually accurate.
  • Oversee the maintenance of the charity’s PIF Tick accreditation, or equivalent information standard.
  • Line manage and support the Information Officers ensuring they have agreed plans, objectives and development opportunities to enable them to perform their roles effectively.
  • Develop and maintain the charity’s systems for evaluation of information resources and helpline, measuring impact and identifying ways to improve.
  • Horizon scan to ensure that the charity is fully informed about developments in clinical practice, and Health Information best practice processes.
  • Maintain a watching brief on the allergy sector, staying up to date with new research, data, and statistics to build a strong evidence base and identify relevant sources for communications items.
  • To act as resource, providing the best evidenced in allergen management and care using recognised clinical guidelines.
  • Be the lead point of contact for allergy researchers, developing and maintaining effective working relationships and contributing to ‘Patient and public involvement(PPI)’ elements of projects as required.
  • Identify issues where the charity might want to take a policy stance or influence, liaising closely with the Chief Executive.
  • Manage, attend and where appropriate present at health professional conferences and exhibitions to promote the work of the charity and connect with relevant key stakeholders.
  • Work closely with the Psychological Services Manager to deliver on the charity’s ambition to provide a suite of holistic psychological support services.
  • Ensure helpline emails and telephone calls are answered in a timely manner and answer calls at least once a week.
  • Alongside the Head of Services, manage the health and Information Services budget.
  • Provide secretariat and support services for the Clinical and Scientific Panel.

To be successful, you should have the below experience and skills:-

  • Experience in allergy
  • Research and audit experience
  • Budget management
  • Dealing with the public and ideally those that may be distressed
  • Ability to analyse data and Interpreting research from scientific papers
  • Writing medical and scientific information in an everyday way
  • Experience of supervision of junior staff, mentorship qualification or equivalent
  • Educated to degree level in relevant subject area or equivalent experience in a health science.
