Job description

Purpose of the job

  • To monitor radiological conditions within the working environment. To ensure the radiological safety of others. To monitor gaseous and particulate discharges to the atmosphere. To monitor the environment out with the working area, to ensure the discharges are within the prescribed limits. To carry out radiation and contamination monitoring during local or site emergencies.
  • Training and mentoring of new recruits in full range of HP Surveyor duties
  • Operational monitoring support to meet requirements of main contract on the clients Site (Day & Silent Hours)
  • Maintain minimum Health Physics manning levels for Site emergency requirements at the clients site. On demand operational monitoring support for a variety of external customers


Position within the organisation:

  • Report to Health Physics charge hands/supervisors/resource manager
  • Liaise with client building supervisors
  • Liaise with client shift managers
  • Liaise with various bodies in site emergency situation
  • Liaise with external customer representatives and Training of new recruits in full range of surveyor duties

Key Accountabilities

  • Surveying - Completion of routine and request work
  • Good knowledge of Health Physics working procedures, practices and client plant
  • Site emergency duties during silent hour
  • Completion of legal documents (clearances & survey reports)
  • Responsible for ensuring work is carried out as per instruction and contract requirement


Occupational Skills and Knowledge

  • Level 1+2 Health Physics Surveyor course and examination or customer’s equivalent.


Duties and Requirements


  • 3 years’ experience required in working in all areas of the client site, and associated areas
  • City and Guilds in Radiation Safety Practice – stage 1 or equivalent.
  • Various on-site courses as required by licensing, contracts etc.
  • Experience required in working in all areas of the customers site, and the environment covered by environmental survey if appropriate
  • Experience required in all aspects of HP surveyor duties, and using all types of RPI
  • A good working knowledge of the IRR’s
