About the Trust
Mersey & West Lancashire Hospital NHS Trust provides healthcare in hospital and the community to 258,000 people across Southport, Formby, and West Lancashire. Acute care is provided at Southport and Formby District General Hospital and Ormskirk District General Hospital. This includes adults' and children's accident and emergency services, intensive care, and a range of medical and surgical specialities. Women's and children's services, including maternity, are provided at Ormskirk hospital. The Northwest Regional Spinal Injuries Centre at Southport hospital provides specialist care for spinal patients from across the North West, North Wales, and the Isle of Man.
What you will be responsible for:
- To act as the Health and Safety Administrator supporting the Health and Safety team, with all aspects of health, safety, security and fire administration based tasks
- To develop and maintain databases using specific software packages, develop strategies to support the Health and Safety team with the undertaking of inspections, audits and safety tours throughout the Trust.
- Maintains accurate filing systems, both paper and electronic so documents can be easily retrieved.
- Prioritise incoming health and safety queries, including mail from internal and external sources and bring these matters to the attention of the health and safety team.
- Act as a first point of contact relating to health, safety, security and fire enquiries and provide advice and support to staff or escalate to the Health and Safety team.
- Reviewing incoming DATIX incidents and triaging for the purpose of prioritising and highlighting more serious incidents of a higher risk for escalation to the Head of Health, Safety, Security and Fire, which may need to be reported to the HSE under RIDDOR.
You will learn the following whilst working at the trust:
- An in depth understanding of the roles and responsibilities involved in working within the NHS.
- Knowledge of the systems used, to effectively always complete your role to the highest standard.
- A sense of teamwork, gained through working alongside and supporting colleagues from all levels, within the organisation.
You will have the following skills/experience:
- Computer literate and good knowledge of Microsoft Office - Mandatory
- Proven track record of administration experience
- Knowledge of the Trust DATIX incidents for non-clinical incidents - Desirable
- Knowledge of Healthcare system - Desirable
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
- Excellent organisation skills
This role may require you to show evidence of vocational level 3 qualification or at least 2 years typing/ secretarial experience.
