The Role:  Health, Safety & Environment Advisor – East Anglia

 

Purpose:

To provide support, assistance and technical advice to the regions teams in order to help the region maintain, develop and continually improve all aspects of HS&E Management in accordance with ABP Policies, procedures and programmes, and wider HS&E Legislative requirements. 

 

Support a culture that ensures all ABP employees are able to go home safely every day.

 

Covering 3 x port locations; Ipswich, Kings Lynn and Lowestoft.

 

 

Accountabilities

  • Be a Health, Safety and Environment Champion for the local Ports, encouraging effective behaviours and safe working practices amongst the teams.
  • Provide guidance and support to local teams on HS&E matters including relevant ABP policies and procedures.
  • Coach, advise and challenge Managers and Supervisors where appropriate, on HS&E issues in order to help build their knowledge and capability. 
  • Promote awareness and support the delivery of Regional safety campaigns within the local Ports.
  • Manage and coordinate all local reported Safety and Environmental incidents, near misses and complaints using the SAP reporting system.
  • Actively help support management teams in regard to specialist HS&E areas, such as but not restricted to: COMAH, DSEAR, Asbestos, Fire, HAVs and Environment.
  • Support the occupational health provider as appropriate. 
  • Promotion of a positive zero harm health and safety culture by creating awareness and understanding of health and safety matters.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications

Essential

  • NEBOSH Certificate (or commitment to attain within 6 months)  and relevant membership level of IOSH/IIRSM/IEMA.
  • Structured, well organised and self-motivated.
  • Prepared to travel to other ABP locations within the region if required to suit the challenging operational requirements.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to build positive relationships and influence up to management level (internally and externally).
  • Good level of understanding of HS&E legislation.
  • Ability to promote a positive health, Safety and Environmental culture within the local teams.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Able to demonstrate flexibility and be agile with a sense of urgency
  • Have knowledge of up-to-date tools and techniques required to deliver behavioural and culture change.
  • Be able to work in a consistent calm, controlled, positive and effective manner, under own initiative, in a changing environment.
  • Experience of managing external relationships with enforcement authorities and other external agencies.
  • Ability to promote a positive health, Safety and Environmental culture within the region

Ideal

  • Experience of providing HS&E professional support within a safety critical organisation.
