Here at Graham & Brown, we are looking for an enthusiastic Health, Safety & Compliance Manager to join the Human Resources team, based in Blackburn. You will join us on a full-time, permanent basis. As our Health, Safety & Compliance Manager, you will manage and develop all safety, health, environment, quality and product compliance systems and requirements across all sites.  

Our Health, Safety & Compliance Manager will have the following responsibilities:

  • Provide competent, technical, and practical health and safety advice and guidance to ensure all legal and other requirements are continually met.
  • Develop, maintain, and continually improve a comprehensive health and safety management system in accordance with relevant legislation and standards including for example fire safety, asbestos control, legionella, electrical and gas safety, and contractor management.
  • Manage the safety culture of the organisation through engagement and collaboration with key stakeholders.
  • Develop, maintain, and continually improve management certifications in line with the current standards ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 and any future requirements.
  • Develop, maintain, and continually improve management certifications in line with FSC and PEFC requirements including preparation for and management of audit processes.
  • Manage compliance scheme for International and European regulations of handling hazardous chemicals (REACH).
  • Manage, develop, and maintain timber source information and ensure requirements of UKTR are met; liaise with timber suppliers as needed.

Experience and skills required by our Health, Safety & Compliance Manager:

  • Prior experience in a similar stand-alone role within a business of a comparable size.
  • NEBOSH Certificate or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of working within ISO frameworks (ISO 9001, 14001, 45001).
  • ISO 9001, 14001, 45001 trained auditor.
  • Experience of identifying, conducting, communicating, and reviewing various risk assessment types (general, CoSHH, fire, DSE, PUWER, manual handling etc).
  • Experience of managing external parties.
  • Excellent communicator, in both written and verbal forms.
  • Good analytical skills.
  • Good planning and organisational skills.
  • Good problem solving skills, with an ability to analyse, think, and act pragmatically.
  • Good team player with an ability to collaborate with colleagues at all levels.
  • Good attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of REACH regulations.
  • Technical knowledge relating to Substance of Very High Concern (SVHC).
  • Prior experience coordinating testing via third parties and generating Declaration of Conformance (DOP) documentation.
  • Effective user of Microsoft Office suites (Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc).
