The Medical SDEC is looking to recruit band 2 HCAs to join our expanding team and help drive the success of the Medical SDEC Unit. This will be as part of a seven day, internal rotation.
In addition to our SDEC and admission avoidance activity the Medical SDEC Unit is supporting a new pathway for direct admission from GP and SWAST referral. Within this we provide medical triage and then transfer patients to either SDEC or the Medical Assessment Unit.
Ideally, you will have experience in acute medicine and be able to communicate clearly and confidently. As part of the team you should be able to assist with patient assessment accurately and professionally, taking bloods, undertaking electrocardiograms, monitoring vital signs and discussing symptoms with the clinical team. This is a great opportunity to widen your skills and knowledge as we see a wide range of different medical conditions.

- To assist in the delivery of care planned and assessed by the Registered Nurses, and other registered healthcare professionals.
- To carry out that care & other duties under direct supervision
- Support care for all patients in the clinical area under supervision and within your level of competence

This job description describes the role that the apprentice will be working in during the training period. Supervision and support will be provided during tasks, supporting the apprentice to safely gain experience and confidence, and to successfully complete the training programme. These tasks will be introduced as the apprentice gains competency.

o Care of dying
- To support registered staff with the physical health, comfort and wellbeing of service users, including physical observations and taking blood pressure, temperature and pulse
- To follow Trust and local policies relating to infection control, maintaining a clean working environment at all times. Awareness of Health and safety policies within the Trust
- To accurately record all observations and care given with counter signature from a Registered Practitioner
- To promote and safeguard the wellbeing of patients, their families and colleagues
- To participate in the care and maintenance of equipment
- To respect and not disclose confidential information, obtained in the course of the work
- Report untoward incidents such as complaints, clinical emergencies, and injury to senior staff
- Gain skills in venepuncture, cannulation and ECG recording
