From the golden sands of St Ives Bay, the storm-washed cliffs of Land's End, to the sub-tropical gardens of Penzance or the ancient lands of West Penwith, its a truly vibrant region to work in.

As a result, we would like to stay connected with you via this Expression of Interest for any Healthcare Assistant vacancies in our West Cornwall region now and over the next 6 months.

Our Healthcare Assistants work as part of a multidisciplinary and multiagency team providing holistic, person-centred, end-of-life care to patients and those important to them, undertaking a broad range of care activities as delegated by a Registered Nurse through a documented plan of care.

As well as a week-long induction, including an introduction to palliative care, you will also be assigned a Buddy for the first six months in role. You can also study a Level 3 Apprenticeship in Care at Truro and Penwith College. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn while you earn with us!

How will I make a difference?

You'll be required to carry out a range of care duties including helping patients meet their hygiene needs, monitoring symptoms, assisting with medications, keeping detailed records and emotional support to the patient and their families/most important people. No day is the same, but it will include such purposeful work as:

  • Nurturing compassionate person-centred relationships and effective communication.
  • Holding honest, well-informed conversations focused on what matters to the person and those important to them.
  • Holistic assessment, care planning and supporting with care needs.
  • Symptom management, maintaining comfort and wellbeing at the end of life.
  • Supporting people to develop an advanced care planning statement that makes their choices and wishes clear to others.
  • Supporting significant others to plan for and cope with loss, grief and bereavement.
  • Striving for excellence through quality improvement, practice development and innovation.

What do I need?

  • Previous experience in a similar care role and a real interest in offering exceptional end of life care.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to build rapport and work effectively with a diverse range of people.
  • The willingness to work alone overnight after initial training.
  • Good IT skills with an openness to learning our systems and processes.
  • A clean driving licence and use of a private car. Though you will have access to a pool car for daytime shifts.
  • Valid right to work in the UK is essential.
