HGV/ Plant Technician

CXC are delighted to be working with the UK’s leading provider of operated road sweepers and self-drive specialist vehicles, to recruit an experienced HGV/ Plant Technician for their Newcastle site.  This is a permanent, full-time role working 45 hours per week (7.30am – 5.30pm), Monday to Friday (on call every 3 weeks), with a pay rate of £18.50 per hour, based on-site. 

Job Responsibilities:

• Ensure vehicles are maintained above the minimum standards required by the DVSA between scheduled service/ inspection dates, to support existing third-party servicing arrangements.
• Provide standby and out of hours callout cover when required (van supplied)
• Ensure vehicle chassis’ and associated vehicle auxiliary engine are maintained in line with the service planner and company policies
• Have the opportunity to work on a range of vehicles from light commercial to HGV vehicles
• Ensure Health & Safety compliance at all times

Technical Skills Required:

• Experienced mechanic (Level 2 plus qualified is preferred)
• Be familiar with modern fault code reader diagnostic systems
• Have knowledge of HGV chassis manufacturers and specialist equipment mounted on vehicles (preferred)
• Hold a Category C driving licence
• Hold a Heavy Goods licence

Skills Required:

• Ability to work unsupervised
• Experience working with road sweepers/ prior sweeper knowledge and HGVs
• High standard of work
• Work well within a team as well as having the ability to use your own initiative
• Flexibility around working hours and days
• Complete tasks to specific timescales
• Be organized with day-to-day paperwork (e.g. job sheets and parts ordering)
• Hold relevant licences to drive or test vehicles and equipment

Experience Required:

• HGV Mechanical (5 years preferred)

Licences/ Certifications:

• DVSA/ FTA Certificate (preferred)
