Do you want to be a part of a team improving our highway network and helping us to make Oxfordshire an even better place to live, work and visit?

About us

The County Council has long recognised the important role that the highway network plays in keeping people and places connected, especially in a rural county such as Oxfordshire. Keeping our highway network in good condition is crucial to support our corporate vision and Strategic Plan. Providing and maintaining the highway network that meets the needs of all is something the County Council is committed to.

About the role

Oxfordshire County Council is looking for a Highways Officer to work within the Highway Engagement Team. The purpose of this role is to be part of a team which will be the first point of contact for the service in terms of engagement with communities, members, and other teams within the organisation. The function of this role will be to support the co-ordination and contact with other teams in the service area. The role will provide support to the team to ensure that Highway Engagement operates effectively and efficiently.

You will primarily support the Team Leader for the Engagement Team and assist in regular and direct contact with Elected Members and other stakeholders in addressing their concerns. The post holder will take ownership queries raised and ensure that a “case worker” is assigned to each issue. As part of this investigation the case worker will liaise with colleagues from across all functional activities of the Highway Maintenance Service to understand the position in terms of appropriate actions to be taken by when and whom. The outcome will be reported back to elected members and others to “close out” the matter.

If successful, you will be part of a team of up to nine members of staff and be the point of contact within the South of the County but can assist working Countywide where necessary.

About you

We are looking for someone who is organised, has good ICT skills, can multi-task, enjoys a varied and fast paced environment and will strive to provide efficient and first-class customer service. You will be a good motivator and mentor for your team, providing quality advice based on sound knowledge and experience.
