Wakefield Council are looking for a dedicated Project Engineer to join their Traffic, Engineering and Design team within the Highways & Transport Services. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing new highway construction schemes, managing major projects, and providing expert advice on highway design, construction, and traffic management.
Day to Day of the Role:- Design and deliver highway projects within the Traffic, Engineering and Design Team.
- Manage the investigation, consultation, evaluation, design, programming, and implementation of highway improvement proposals.
- Conduct site inspections to ensure compliance with drawings and specifications.
- Oversee project management of construction schemes, including financial activities and preparation of accounts.
- Coordinate stakeholder consultation during the design and construction of major projects.
- Provide design advice for vehicular crossings and contribute to the implementation of policies supporting service objectives.
- Represent the Service and Authority on matters covered by the post, including Committee and public inquiries.
- Ensure the sound use of resources and meet service financial targets.
- Maintain effective working relationships and adhere to all policies, practices, and legislation.
- Design reviews, checking, and processing of Highways Act 1980 – Section 278 procedures.
- Deputise for the Engineering and Design Team Leader as required.
- Keep up to date with new techniques, processes, and procedures.
- Supervise assistant Project Engineers, technicians, and supervisors.
- Responsible for producing project estimates and risk registers.
- Prepare accounts, invoices, reports, and other records on schemes of value up to £5m.
- Site visits requiring protective equipment (hard hats, high visibility jackets, etc.).
- Attendance at meetings and presentation of evidence on contentious projects.
