Job description

City of York Council is looking for an enthusiastic individual to join our housing team, as we continue to fulfil our commitment to provide and support healthy and sustainable housing in York.

Working in the energy efficiency team, within the Healthy and Sustainable Homes service, the successful candidate will play a key role in administering and delivering our energy efficiency and retrofit projects in York.

The role will principally involve developing, marketing and managing contracts for the delivery of energy efficiency projects, which deliver energy efficiency advice and retrofit measures in domestic homes, in York to reduce fuel poverty and carbon emissions and to contribute towards the Council’s ambition to be a net-zero carbon city by 2030.

The role will involve working and liaising with contractors, residents, colleagues within the Council, Government agencies and their partners, and being the single point of contact for the projects being delivered.

The role will involve dealing with any complaints or issues that may arise in relation to contracts with providers, including notifying and/or discussing with the Home Energy Efficiency Programme Manager where the complaint involves local politicians and/or  may attract adverse publicity for the scheme and/or the local Council.

For the role you will need

  • excellent organisation skills and record keeping,
  • good customer service skills
  • good IT skills

Due to the nature of the role and the need to visit people within their properties, a full driving licence is required.

As this role is public facing, applicants will need to demonstrate, at interview, their competency to converse and provide advice and guidance to members of the public, in spoken English to CEFR level C2: Can express him/herself spontaneously at length with a natural conversational flow, avoiding or backtracking around any difficulty so smoothly that the person with whom they are conversing is hardly aware of it.
