About this opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity for a self-motivated, independent thinker to join the Integrated Home to School Transport Team as a Home to School Transport Officer. This is a great opening allowing you to develop your career and work alongside others who are passionate about making a difference and ensuring 5,000+ mainstream and SEND pupils get to School every day in Westmorland and Furness Council area.

 

We are looking for a full-time Home to School Transport Officer to join the Team. It is a busy team and you will be responsible for commissioning transport routes (both mainstream and SEND) and undertaking the complex task of ensuring the route logistics, risk assessments, pupil mix and vehicle requirements are aligned to ensure pupils arrive at school safely and in the right frame of mind to get the most out of their school day as well as acting as a point of escalation to Home to School Transport assistants. The workload is varied and will see you leading the process of tendering of routes, contract managing routes and liaising with Operators, ensuring financial data is correct to aid budget management, processing clearances for drivers & passenger assistants, or even getting out of the office and undertaking route inspections.

 

You will be required to provide excellent customer service to a wide range of stakeholders including schools, families, transport operators who use the service, whilst ensuring the policies and procedures relating to the Council’s statutory obligations in respect to School Transport are consistently applied. You will also need strong interpersonal skills with the ability to challenge and question whilst maintaining a ‘can do’ attitude with a determination to seek solutions. To undertake this role effectively you will be able to ensure attention to detail and accuracy in your work, even when under pressure, and to be confident to learn to use a range of computer systems (training will be given).

 

The team are currently based in Cumbria House, 117 Botchergate, Carlisle CA1 1RD and there will be a requirement to work from this office for the duration of the on-the- job training, however shortly the team will move to their new base at Parkhouse Building, Kingmoor Park, Carlisle, CA6 4SJ where there will be an emphasis on working regularly from this office; particularly throughout the summer months prior to the commencement of the school academic year.
