Location: Aberdeen City Music School Hall of Residence

Duration: Permanent, Part Time - 25 hours per week

ACMS Boarding is a home-from-home for musically gifted young people aged 11-18 from all over Scotland and the Isles. This post offers an incredible opportunity for someone wishing to work in a caring environment, with a dedicated team who have the welfare of the child at the core of their practice

Roles that require PVG Membership

Please note that with effect from 1 April 2023, where a role requires PVG membership, candidates will be required to meet the cost of the PVG membership. This applies only to roles with a full time equivalent salary of £30,000 and above. (Teaching roles and jobs at Grade 11 and above (currently £30,727 per annum / £15.97 per hour)

The Council will pay for the PVG membership cost initially, either £18 for existing PVG scheme members, or £59 for non-members, and this cost will be deducted from an employee’s first FULL month’s salary payment.

Job Purpose:

To work as part of a team and take responsibility for the delivery of high quality care to the young people who board (term-time) at Aberdeen City Music School Hall of Residence. To provide a safe, consistent and caring environment that encourages and nurtures young people to develop positively and achieve their full potential

  • SSSC/GTC Registration or willing to become a member
  • SVQ Level 3 (Children and Young People) and HNC in Social Care. Alternatively you may have a social work or equivalent registerable qualification (See SSSC website)
  • Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG)
  • The ability to make decisions and take responsibility for own practice, seeking advice and support as necessary
  • Good practice; recognising support needs, promoting dignity and respect and exhibiting unconditional positive regard
  • The ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with young people, their families and other stakeholders
  • The ability to advocate on behalf of young people by ensuring that their views are taken into account and that their rights are promoted and protected
  • The ability to produce high quality written records and reports
  • Good ICT skills
