Housekeeper / Cook For Private House In Cotswolds

We are looking for an experienced Housekeeper / Cook to join a growing team in maintaining the highest standard of cleanliness and care for a substantial private property near Burford. It is essential that you have Private Household experience and you must be a confident, capable cook as will be responsible for the cooking when the family are in residence, providing seasonal, healthy food for the family and for their guests when they entertain.

The family live in America and will typically visit the UK 3-4 months of the year, mainly in the Summer but at various other points during the calendar too. They are renowned for having long-term employees who are loyal to them and vice versa.

You will be part of a team so must be a team player. You will report to the House Manager (who in turn reports to the Estate Manager) and you will work with another Housekeeper.

When the family are in residence you will be responsible for the cooking, both for family meals and for when they entertain. They will typically entertain twice or three times a week for between 8-12 people. If the lunch or dinner is bigger than 8-12 people, the House Manager will organise caterers to come in and you would assist and work with them. When the family are away, you and the other housekeeper will look after the upkeep of the house and maintain the household to a 5* standard at all times. You will both be responsible for the day-to-day cleaning and upkeep of 3 properties, the main large seven-bedroom house and additional guest and staff accommodation. These properties are to be cleaned, cared for, and be tidy and welcoming in readiness for immediate occupation and use by the family and their friends.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

· Cooking for the family and guests when they are in residence

· General tidying up

· Daily cleaning of all areas and rooms

· Hoovering and dusting

· Making beds

· Laundry, ironing and wardrobe management to include care of fine fabrics

· Deep cleaning when appropriate

· A good knowledge and experience in cleaning antiques, silver and crystal

You should feel comfortable greeting guests and, when and if the House Manager is absent, be confident with table laying and service to help with lunches and dinners when the family entertains.

This role will suit a candidate who works well as part of a team and is happy working in a busy family house and muck in where required as well as working to a slower pace as there are weeks when its quieter. The job will evolve over the next 18months as the estate completes its extensive refurbishment and as such this is a very exciting opportunity for a candidate wanting to start with a Cotswolds house from the beginning.

The role is 45 hours a week from Monday to Friday. Though, flexibility is important and there will be an “all hands on deck” attitude when the Principals are in residence. You will be expected to work longer hours during this time, including weekends.

You must have a clean driving licence.

Competitive salary dependent on experience.
