About the role:

Horsham District Council are looking for a Housing Accommodation Officer to join the Housing department to support tenants in temporary accommodation units and those in bed and breakfast throughout the district. You will also need to participate in out of hours service rota providing support for emergency cases that arise outside of normal office hours.

As a Housing Accommodation Officer, you will ensure that tenants are aware of, and adhere to tenancy terms and conditions, rent accounts are maintained and that tenants are receiving their maximum entitlement in Housing Benefit. You will need to be able to manage and challenge any difficult behaviour exhibited whilst tenants occupy temporary accommodation, and you will be expected to participate in any court action, should this arise.

You will need to discuss housing options that we have at our disposal and complete and update financial assessments for tenants in temporary accommodation to prepare them financially for permanent housing. As a visiting officer you will be visiting tenants in our council owned temporary accommodation as you will need to be a visible presence to all our tenants residing in interim temporary accommodation.

This is a rewarding role as you will be helping vulnerable households to move from temporary accommodation to a more permanent solution.

About you:

To succeed as a Housing Accommodation Officer, you will be a solution-focused people-person who has experience in dealing with a range of people from different backgrounds with sometime complex needs. You will be a competent IT user with good attention to detail. You will be able to work within a team and on your own initiative.
