About the role

We are looking to recruit a Housing Assistant to join our Housing Team on a fixed-term, full time basis:

  • to provide support in the administration of the grants and HMO Licensing Service, including advice to applicants and assessment of applications in accordance with Policy and Legislation
  • to fulfil the role of Liaison Officer for the processing of housing grants, loans and HMO licences
  • to undertake detailed and specific duties in relation to the requirements of the Housing service

On a day to day basis you will:

  • provide support to Housing and Senior Officers in preparing grant and loan applications including the issuing and monitoring of referrals for housing adaptations
  • provide advice and assistance to the public within area of work, in writing, by telephone or face to face
  • assist the public in making applications and approaches to obtain housing services
  • communicate professionally and empathetically with the public keeping them up to date on progress and giving further advice. Acting as Liaison Officer for the Housing Grants and Loan Service ensuring good communication at all time, keeping clients informed as to the progress of their application through initial preparation stage right through to completion of works
  • ensure that the Housing Grants and Loan Service gives high priority to customer care ensuring that all complaints are fully and properly dealt with at an early stage
  • liaise with other Services of the Council and external agencies to ensure the efficient and effective operation of the Housing Grants & Loans Service

We are looking to recruit an individual:

  • to be an effective communicator to a wide range of audiences both orally and in writing
  • ability to show empathy to clients including those deemed vulnerable
  • able to cope in stressful or confrontational situations when dealing with clients, contractors or other internal or external agencies
  • to have a friendly and helpful disposition
  • to have a flexible attitude towards the overall needs of the section
  • ability work as part of a team
  • able to build effective working relationships within and outside the Authority

In addition to the above, we require an individual with a degree of fluency in the Welsh language. A successful applicant without the required Welsh language skill will be fully supported to reach the desired standard within two years of appointment.
