Job Advertisement: Housing Management Assistant
Location: Southampton
Contract: 4-Month Contract
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 9 am - 5 pm
We are seeking a dynamic and motivated individual to join our team in Southampton as a Housing Management Assistant. This role, operating within the Homelessness Unit, involves contributing to the prevention and relief of homelessness, accommodation provision and management for homeless households, and fulfilling the City Council's duties under the Housing Act 1996, Homelessness Act 2002 Part 7 (Housing the Homeless), and Homelessness Reduction Act 2017.
Key Responsibilities:
Homelessness Claims: Interview and investigate all claims of homelessness under Part 7 Housing Act 1996, Homelessness Act 2002, and Miscellaneous Provisions Act 1982 from households seeking assistance from the City Council.
Detailed Information Gathering: Obtain comprehensive information on housing, financial, social, health, and other circumstances, past and present, through appropriate inquiries, visits, and liaison with other agencies, ensuring authenticity.
Homelessness Prevention: Implement strategies to prevent and relieve homelessness, adhering to the requirements of the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017 for households at risk of homelessness.
Mediation: Mediate between customers and their housing providers when facing homelessness, taking appropriate measures to prevent loss or damage to clients' personal possessions.
Qualifications and Experience:

  • Previous experience in Housing Management or homelessness prevention.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Housing Act 1996, Homelessness Act 2002, and Homelessness Reduction Act 2017.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to gather detailed information and conduct thorough investigations.


Working Conditions:
The post holder must share in the work of the Homelessness Unit, contributing to the prevention and relief of homelessness.
