We have fabulous opportunity for you to join our awesome team as a Housing Manager, within our Gateshead Move On service. We provide a low to medium level tenancy support to our customers where we promote independent living, through intensive housing management services. This is to customers who are aged 18 and over. Part of the role is to oversee the management of a fabulous housing team, who continually smash results.

You’ll support our customers to maximise their income and budgeting skills, through HAP referrals. You’ll also work with customers with high levels of arrears and come to payment arrangements with them, which will sustain their tenancies. We also work with vulnerable customers with complex safeguarding concerns such as hoarding and self-neglect and signpost to the relevant support agencies.

Typical day as a Housing Manager

• Through visibility, engagement with customers and proactivity on our estates, you’ll really get to get to know our communities.


• You’ll look after a number of patches and neighbourhoods (ably supported by our Community Housing Assistants).

• Proactively managing anti-social behaviours in our estates, responding to customer queries and complaints.


• Managing our voids process including liaising with local authorities.


• Carry out estate inspections, engaging and meeting with contractors on site, as well as carrying out and recording the routine safety and compliance checks in our buildings and communities.

About You

• Have worked in housing before and understand housing management, housing law and in an ideal world, universal credit too!


• Super organised and methodical in your approach, you’re also a proactive self-starter with a “can do” positive attitude


• Passionate about delivering excellent customer service and have a genuine desire to help your customers.


• This job can challenge, especially when we’re dealing with complaints but your resilience will help you through.


• Confident working with external partners and stakeholders such as local authorities, MP’s etc


• Like being part of a team but appreciate that this is a role where you’ll spend most of your time working in our local estates.

Our team

To us we’re not just a team we’re a ‘work family’. Our manager is Paul, who has over 10yrs experience at Home Group. There are 7 of us within the team who are there for each other. We have Karen, Graham, Chloe, Kelsey, Denise, Richard, Keith, Paul and John. We are one big work family.

Job details

• This is a hybrid role and in an average week, you’ll spend most days working from our community patches of Gateshead, Leam Lane and Deckham.


• Although you’ll spend time in our neighbourhoods, we do get together regularly, we spend the week working from our Gateshead Move On office, but we also have one day working from home. This is to allow time catching up on admin.


• Flexible working hours or There may be some flexibility to adapt your working hours, do let us know about this when you meet us at the interview.


• We mainly work Monday to Friday 9-5pm.


• You’ll work within our Gateshead Move On service in Gateshead where we have 50 fully furnished properties and 9 dispersed within the community. We will also give you the technology and kit to make your work that much easier.


• To get from A to B, you’ll need a vehicle insured for business purposes. The great news is that we’ll pay your mileage!


• You’ll need a Standard DBS check done and we pay for that.
