Job description

The Housing Registrations Team within City of York Council are looking to appoint a Housing Registrations Advisor. The post holder will be the first point of contact for customers applying for social housing, they will be responsible for giving realistic housing advice, discussing with applicants all housing options available to them, processing and assessing applications in line with the City of York Council allocation policy. The post holder will be responsible for, advertising, short listing and allocating vacant properties across the City of York Council area and will work closely with other registered social providers. The post holder will be responsible for ensuring all associated recording and reporting systems are kept accurately up to date.


Customers may be anxious and under a lot of stress, therefore successful applicants must have excellent interpersonal skills to deal with people in person or on the phone. You will be capable of working on your own initiative as well as under the guidance of the Housing Registrations manager.


Knowledge of housing law and ability to use specialist IT systems is essential as well as good interpersonal skills. You will need to be able to demonstrate that you are sympathetic and firm, and you are able to cope in situations, which can be stressful as well as rewarding.


The posts are offer as a Hybrid position, with both home and office working.

As this role is public facing, applicants will need to demonstrate, at interview, their competency to converse and provide advice and guidance to members of the public, in spoken English to CEFR level C1: Can express him/herself fluently and spontaneously, almost effortlessly. Only a conceptually difficult subject can hinder a natural, smooth flow of language.
