Job description

The Housing Solutions Team works within Housing Demand, which is responsible for assisting homeless applicants with their housing options, offering advice, support and information.

This team makes up the frontline of our busy housing service, which deals with customers with a huge variety of housing needs and aspirations. Our aim is to provide excellent customer service and the best advice to each individual. We offer creative Housing Solutions as well as making statutory decisions under the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017.

In a challenging housing market, our main focus is to help our customers, by preventing and relieving homelessness.

The role is hybrid working at the moment, but this is not guaranteed to be the future pattern.

We are looking for flexible, creative individuals who place a high value on excellent customer service. Those who apply need to care about helping people and need to be able to work in a supportive way with customers who may have high needs. We need for people who will enjoy a busy, people-focussed role and who can manage their time well, and deal with competing demands, in managing a caseload.

The Jobs

Housing Solutions Officer (Grade 7-10)

This key role is at the frontline of Ealing’s Housing service. The role is wide and varied and post-holders will provide an excellent customer-focussed service, designed to give helpful but realistic housing options advice and to do casework to resolve housing problems.

Please indicate on your application the level you are applying for and address the person specification for that grade:

Grade 7– the trainee level

The job is about being able to work well with people, get results and provide an excellent customer service. We recognise that these are transferrable skills and that there are people who have them, who would do well in this role. The traineeship lasts for 6 months and provides training in the technical, legal and knowledge.

Grades 8-10

For those with housing or related relevant experience. Although anyone applying for these grades will be given some training, they will be required to already be able carry out duties according to their grade.

Officers will deal directly with customers, create housing plans for them, work with them to solve their housing problems and assess the council’s legal duties to them.

The starting grade will be either grade 8 or grade 9, depending on the level of experience.

Please note, Grade 10 is a restricted grade, restricted to officers appointed to cover extra duties.

Ealing council is committed to safeguarding children and vulnerable adults and expects all staff to share this commitment. Ealing follows safer recruitment practices to protect children and vulnerable adults. The post holder will be subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

This post is subject to Ealing’s enhanced vetting process.
