The salary range for this position is:£47,043 - £54,135
The Role:
The Housing Solutions Review Officers provide an independent legal review of cases where a customer is dissatisfied with the Council's decision on the allocation of housing.
This is a specialist role that is at the forefront of ensuring the work in preventing and relieving homelessness in the borough is lawful and effective, and at the cutting edge following the introduction of the Homelessness Act 2017 in April 2018.
These positions are fundamental to the provision of services to vulnerable customers who may approach the council for assistance through the Children’s Act, the Care Act, and all relevant housing legislation including the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017.
About You:
The post holder will display expert knowledge in homelessness legislation. You will need excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as have a keen attention to detail and effectively managing a caseload and meeting deadline.
As Housing Solutions Reviews Officer you will ensure that the Council fulfils its legal obligations by conducting independent legal review of cases. This is a specialist role that will be at the forefront of ensuring the work in preventing and relieving homelessness in the borough is lawful and effective.
This will include working professionally with service users, their representatives and other agencies involved with Reviews and Appeals.
To ensure that statutory decisions are able to withstand, political, media and legal scrutiny.
To ensure that all work is carried out in accordance with the current relevant legislation, and any central government or Southwark policies and procedures.
To provide training and feedback internally to the Housing Solution Officers to ensure continual improvement and high quality decision making.
To work in partnership with Southwark Council’s Legal Services; providing instructions, attending case conferences on legal challenges, and attending the Supreme Court, High Court, Appeal Court and County Court with Legal Services.
To manage and control the use of costly temporary accommodation during the review and Court appeal process.
To ensure that the service is delivered efficiently, effectively, maintain high levels of customer satisfaction.
To contribute to the work of the Unit and report to the Review Manager.
