Job description

HR is an innovative service that is keen to drive forward and establish a digital workforce. In 2024, we will be moving to a new HR platform called Oracle Fusion, which is a more modern, Cloud-based platform that will introduce smarter ways of working.

What you will do in your working day

Working with the Admin and Helpdesk team on HR Frontline, part of Sandwell Council's Human Resources department, will provide an exciting opportunity to become involved with the digital transformation to Oracle Fusion. You will also learn excellent telephone, customer service and administrative skills and develop your knowledge of all HR processes.

Whilst undertaking your apprenticeship you will work towards developing your skills, knowledge and experience, by carrying out the following duties:

  • Deal with a wide range of telephone and email enquiries from customers.
  • Undertake a comprehensive range of administrative/ICT based processes in connection with the HR service delivery.
  • Assist the team with maintaining accurate and up to date establishment, employee, recruitment, payroll and pension records and systems, both manual and computerised.
  • Under guidance, respond to requests for information/enquiries regarding employees including supporting the completion of monitoring forms, the collation of statistical information and the generation of correspondence as required.
  • Provide support with ensuring that legislative and internal deadlines are met.
  • To assist with the creation and preparation of reports, letters, memo’s spreadsheets, documents, databases etc, using a range of word processing and computer software packages including, Word, Excel, Adobe, Publisher, PowerPoint, Access, SBS and Discoverer.
  • Actively participate in regular progress reviews.
  • Become an active team member.
  • Undertake appropriate training as identified relevant to the role.
  • Deliver services in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of employee data at all times.

The training you will be getting

At the end you will gain a Level 2 Customer Service Practitioner Qualification. This will include any IT Functional Skills as appropriate. The apprenticeship training will be delivered in the workplace, as you will receive visits from a college assessor.

The apprenticeship will also include a proportion of 20% Off The Job Training and a robust programme of Mandatory Apprentice Training provided by Sandwell Council to include Workplace Professionalism and Equality & Diversity.

What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship

This apprenticeship is a fixed term contract. However the skills, knowledge and experience gained in this apprenticeship will allow you to gain future opportunities in the sector.
