Main Duties

Job Description

We have partnered with an award-winning charity based in Brixton – London, committed to transforming education by training and supporting schools and teachers to challenge systemic inequity. Their mission is to create affirmative environments for young people, foster systemic change in education, and redefine policies through innovative practices. Integrity, democracy, and hope are the essential values, guiding their journey.

We are seeking emerging creatives to contribute to the transformation of their brand output.

Overview:

We are looking for an Illustrator to play a pivotal role in shaping their creative expression. The selected candidate will support the revamping of social channels and apply the new art direction to their training materials.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop a unique illustration style that embodies their spirit and values, ensuring consistency across the website, social channels, training materials, and printed collateral.
  • Create visually appealing and easily replicable illustrations, inspired by the energy of zine hand-drawn artwork and simple comic strip drawings.
  • Blend the styles of Jacob V Joyce with the simplicity of comic book line drawings to achieve a distinctive and fresh visual identity.
  • Work closely with the creative team to ensure the art direction aligns with their vibrant, modern brand personality.
  • Contribute to the development of a visual language that inspires action and sets them apart from traditional charity visuals.

Start Date: ASAP

Expected Duration: 1 month – potentially ongoing

Skills and Experience Required

Personal Specification

  • Proficient in illustration with a portfolio showcasing a unique and versatile style.
  • Familiarity with activist zines, Emory Douglas’s style, and an understanding of the lo-fi texture in photocopied layers of zines.
  • Experience in creating artwork that reflects hope, drawing inspiration from non-traditional sources.
  • Ability to replicate and adapt the illustration style across various platforms and materials.
  • Collaborative mindset with strong communication skills to work effectively within a creative team.
