Job description

To work in partnership with other agencies in health, education and social care in assessing and managing children with special education/medical needs during an immunisation session. To provide advice and support to school staff and parents/carers, some of whom may have language barrier and cognitive difficulties in relation to immunisations. To work towards maintaining good relationships with colleagues and the general public. Assess and engage professional judgement to ensure client consent is informed in accordance with national and local policy/guidelines To actively participate in the delivery of immunisations to a defined client group. To carry out health surveillance within the parameters of the immunisation session Respond to clinical emergencies (anaphylaxis) initiating basic life support to ensure emergency procedures are executed and reported in accordance with national and local policy. Report adverse drug reactions through the MRHA system Ensure up to date immunisation training is attended To participate in the training of pre-registration students. To maintain accurate and contemporaneous client records in accordance with Trust Policies and own professional standards for Record Keeping. To assist with the organisation, planning and delivery of information sessions to parents, young people and teachers in relation to immunisations. To promote Childrens immunisations uptake. To have an understanding of the National Immunisation Programme for all Children and Young People. To report immediately any incidents or accidents and complete appropriate documentation.Discuss with Senior Immunisation Nurse or Team lead if concerns are identified. To have knowledge of safeguarding policies and procedures and ensure that assessments of client needs is undertaken during contact. Discuss with Senior Immunisation Nurse or Team lead if concerns are identified. To ensure the cold chain is maintained at all times, reporting via risk systems should this fail. Ensure that vaccines are stored in accordance with medicines management policy at all times. Work with Immunisation team colleagues to ensure equipment is maintained and re-ordered as required.
