Your new company
A leading wholesale and distribution business with more than 50 years' experience is seeking an Import Manager to head up the company's import function. The business places a great focus on looking after its staff, making it a fantastic place to work. They are moving to a brand new office in Manchester City Centre having outgrown their current office - it's a really exciting time to join!
Your new role
The Import Manager will have overall responsibility for the import, export and shipping activity on behalf of the business, and will advise on supply chain operations in both domestic and international markets. You will be the main point of contact for stakeholders including HMRC, suppliers, and freight forwarders. You'll manage the customs compliance framework process, and you'll conduct compliance audits and investigations. The Import Manager will manage the team and ensure that shipments run smoothly, and you will liaise with warehouse managers to ensure that there is sufficient capacity, as well as looking at forecasts and future deliveries. Taking a more proactive approach, you will analyse the company's freight costs and will benchmark freight tenders for import/export operations and courier shipments.
What you'll need to succeed

  • Previous experience working as an Import Manager (please note, this is not a 'step-up' role, the company requires experience at the managerial level already)
  • Ability to plan and carry out international operations such as cross-trade shipments and EU export cargo to end customer efficiently and professionally.
  • Understanding of the warehousing process and warehouse management systems.
  • Detailed knowledge of customs authorisations and processes such as AEO, CFSP, Customs Warehousing, NES and NCTS.
  • Knowledge of running Customs Freight Simplified Procedures (CFSP) on a Duty Management System software
  • Perform shipping operations and customs procedures compliant with HMRC Framework.
  • Excellent leadership skills of managing a team
  • Strong negotiation skills for stakeholder freight tenders.
  • Understanding of international shipments and knowledge of the end-to-end supply chain/freight forwarder processes.
