Statement of Purpose Biddulph High School is committed to inclusive practice; the school’s Acorn Centre supports by providing short term placements with tailored interventions, for individuals who are struggling to access the mainstream school due to difficulties they may face.
Under the direction of the Head of Inclusion, to co-ordinate and deliver, behaviour and SEMH intervention programmes for designated students and to use special knowledge and experience to provide appropriate support to students in relation to their individual abilities.
To lead and manage the offer for students accessing the Acorn Centre and support the integration of the students back into mainstream education.
Duties and Responsibilities
To supervise students placed in the Acorn Centre during lesson times for study, pastoral, behavioural and SEMH reasons.
To supervise students working in the Acorn Centre at breaks, lunchtimes, before and after school, as necessary.
Provide structured support, including tutorial support, in accordance with specific work programmes.
To provide suitable interventions to support the academic learning of the individuals as well as therapeutic and practical sessions.
Use specialist knowledge/experience to provide appropriate support to students in relation to their individual needs, e.g. behaviour management, self-esteem, confidence strategies.
To support in creating bespoke timetables and support packages for individuals.
To direct the Acorn Centre Assistant to complete relevant interventions with individuals or small groups.
Monitor and evaluate student achievement and attainment throughout the centre, working closely with the Inclusion team.
Lead by example, achieving high standards of student attainment, behaviour and motivation.
Take responsibility for the pastoral care of students accessing the Leaning Centre with support for the school pastoral and safeguarding team.
Specific Responsibilities
1. To liaise with relevant outside agencies to ensure that individual student needs are met effectively.
2. To create student timetables to support their provision.
3. To be responsible for the management of the provision under the direction of the Head of Inclusion.
4. To liaise with Subject Leaders regarding schemes of work and monitoring pupils academic progress.
5. Ensuring that accurate and detailed records are kept of meetings and discussions with parents and outside agencies.
6. To provide guidance to staff on the choice of appropriate teaching and learning methods to meet the needs of different students.
7. To work with the Inclusion team to promote an inclusive curriculum and suitable outreach offer to all key stages.
8. To liaise with and inform parents/carers about the specifics of the placement provision for their child under the direction of the Head of Inclusion.
9. To monitor the progress of placement students to support the graduated response.
The duties may be varied to meet the changing demands of the academy at the reasonable discretion of the Headteacher. This job description does not form part of the contract of employment.
