Job description

GLL are currently recruiting a 12 month fixed term (18-20hrs per week) Inclusion Specialist Swimming Teachers to join us at the Link Centre, Swindon, for this role you will need to have 2 years teaching experience with at least STA Level 2 Award in Teaching Swimming, and experience in teaching pupils with special educational needs. The STA qualifications are nationally recognised and will give you the skills of how to teach non-swimmers, beginners and improvers.

 

We are looking for an experienced and dedicated Inclusion Specialist swimming teacher who will be responsible for delivering adapted swimming activities and providing support and guidance to other swimming teachers in the delivery of disability swimming lessons. The successful candidate will have a passion for swimming and a deep understanding of the needs of individuals with disabilities.

 

They will have excellent teaching skills and the ability to motivate and inspire both children and adults.

 

Key responsibilities include designing and delivering adapted swimming activities that meet the individual needs of each swimmer with a disability, ensuring that they are safe, enjoyable, and challenging. Providing one-to-one and small group coaching to individuals with disabilities, using a range of techniques and strategies to help them develop their swimming skills and confidence in the water. Developing and maintaining strong relationships with swimmers, their families, and other stakeholders, ensuring that they are informed about progress, activities, and any changes to the programme.

 

We are looking for applicants who have:

 

  • A deep understanding of the needs of individuals with disabilities and a proven track record of delivering swimming activities that are safe, enjoyable, and challenging for this group.

  • Experience of working with a range of disabilities, including physical, sensory, and learning disabilities, and the ability to adapt teaching techniques to meet the needs of individual swimmers.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with swimmers, their families, and other stakeholders.

  • A strong sense of empathy and compassion, with the ability to create a safe and supportive environment for individuals with disabilities.

  • Confidence, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude, with the ability to motivate and inspire both swimmers and other swimming teachers.

  • A commitment to professional development and the ability to stay up-to-date with the latest teaching techniques and strategies in disability swimming.

  • A current lifeguard qualification and first aid certification would be desirable.

 

You will be a part of one of our Teaching Teams working with a Lead Teacher to support you in your delivery role as well as advising and offering your specialist advice to your team.
