Job description

We are a not-for-profit organisation who are committed to increasing the diversity and numbers of young people entering into engineering and technology to meet the future workforce needs, as well as promoting roles that help us work towards net zero and drive environmental sustainability.
To help us drive our mission, we are seeking to appoint a passionate Committee Member to join the EngineeringUK Audit, Risk and Investment Committee (ARIC). The ARIC supports the Board by advising on the comprehensiveness and reliability of the processes relating to finance, risk management and internal control within EngineeringUK.
You will be joining an ambitious, passionate, and dedicated organisation, working closely with the Executive team, to offer clear and practical oversight to the charity.

About the role
The Engineering and Technology Board, trading as EngineeringUK, is an independent, not-for-profit organisation which works on behalf of the UK engineering community to enable more young people from all backgrounds to be informed, inspired and progress into engineering and technology. We are privileged to receive a share of the registration fees of professionally registered engineers and technicians (alongside the Engineering Council) and our work is also supported by 34 Corporate Members as well as hundreds of other funders of our activities.
EngineeringUK has an upcoming vacancy for an independent member of its Audit, Risk and Investment Committee, which assists the EngineeringUK Board by reporting to it on the integrity and regulatory compliance of the financial statements of EngineeringUK and its subsidiaries; the performance of the external auditor; the functioning of EngineeringUK’s internal controls and procedures; risk management and the performance of the Investment Fund Manager.
The committee meets 4 times a year at our offices in London, with hybrid facilities available to those who want to join remotely.
Role responsibilities:
To monitor and review the adequacy and effectiveness of the organisation’s systems, policies and
in relation to financial control, internal audit, human resources, governance, strategic planning, programme management and risk management.
To monitor and review the organisation’s financial statements and reports, including review of the statutory accounts before submission to the Board.
To review the organisation’s corporate and programme risk registers and provide guidance on risk management.
To consider the appointment and performance of the external auditor
To review and advise on a Reserves Policy for the organisation.
To monitor the organisation’s investment portfolio and advise on the appointment of fund manager.
Education / level of experience:
Experience in audit and/or pensions
CCAB qualified accountant with experience either within a financial, accounting or audit background, or of charity or governance issues (preferred).
