East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s customer relations team are looking to recruit additional Independent People, to be actively involved in the investigation of complaints made about Children’s Services.
This is a vital role in ensuring the investigation process is open, transparent, fair and robust. The Independent Person will work alongside the Investigating Officer to provide an independent and objective view to the investigation of complaints.
The ideal candidate will have extensive recent experience (within the last 3 years) of working within a children’s services setting, ideally within a local authority managerial role with experience of complaint investigations. There will also be the opportunity to act as an External Investigating Officer where the local authority views it appropriate.
Due to the statutory requirements, the Independent Person cannot be an elected member or employee of the Council, nor a spouse of an employee or member of the authority. Former Council staff are eligible to apply, but good practice suggests at least three years should have lapsed since they were employed by the local authority.
The Independent Person will work on an as and when required basis and have casual worker status for the local authority. The current hourly rate of pay is £24.13.

Causal workers who join the supply service pool must complete online mandatory training. Mandatory training is free of charge and workers must complete it in their own time.
