Job description

Enfield’s Public Health Team are recruiting a Strategic Infant Feeding and Training Lead on an 18 month fixed-term contract.
Enfield is one of 75 local authority areas eligible to receive funding from the Department of Health and Social Care and the Department of Education, as part of the Family Hubs and Start for Life programme funding package for the period 2022–2025.
The programme’s objective is to join up and enhance services delivered through transformed family hubs, ensuring all parents and carers can access the support they need at the time that they need it. Through the programme, parents and carers will feel supported and empowered in caring for and nurturing their babies and children, ensuring they receive the best start in life. This in turn will improve health and education outcomes for babies and children and support them to thrive in later life.
As part of this transformation, Enfield is receiving funding to develop its core ‘Start for Life’ Service offer, which includes developing Enfield’s Infant Feeding support system and service offer for parents and carers across the borough, so that it reflects the needs of the local communities and mothers and families receive seamless and consistent support throughout their Infant Feeding journey.
Purpose of the Role:
We are looking for an individual who has extensive Infant Feeding experience to become our “Infant Feeding Practice and Training Lead”. The main aim of this role is to increase the prevalence of exclusive breastfeeding at 6-8 weeks and beyond. You will be responsible for managing stakeholders to improve Infant Feeding rates in the London Borough of Enfield. As an Infant Feeding Training lead you will be responsible for organising and facilitating training to stakeholders and parents/carers and jointly implementing Baby Friendly Standards.
Job Specifics – Skills and Experience
Essential:
- Substantial experience working in an Infant Feeding capacity in a maternity, children centre or health visiting setting. This includes experience of planning, co-ordinating and facilitating the delivery of staff Infant Feeding training programmes and contributing to relevant programmes of professional development and in house training.
- Substantial experience of implementing BFI standards in a hospital, health visiting or children centre settings.
- Substantial experience of training staff to implement the Baby Friendly standards demonstrating good practice through care with complex needs. Empower staff including midwives, health visitors, children centres staff in their skill to independently provide evidence-based care in supporting mothers and their babies initiate and establish feeding.
- Demonstrating an understanding and knowledge of complex issues associated with Infant Feeding
- Experience of working/developing an Infant Feeding pathway and raising the profile of the service to maximise referrals
- Experience of working with hard-to-reach communities
- Experience of developing a training needs analysis/workforce development plan to ensure BFI project/ initiative delivers adequate training to staff training needs.
- Experience of delivering public health projects / programmes from inception to completion, including development, planning, initiation, implementation, monitoring, evaluation and review; and delivering agreed outcomes on time and within budget. This includes experience of delivering programmes and projects through a workstream approach.
- Experience of leading and working collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholder’s organisations and disciplines, to deliver successful outcomes.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Includes being able to work with complex data sets to inform decision-making and strategic planning.
- Demonstrates creative and innovative approaches to work. Has a proven ability both to “sell” and embed new ways of working and to learn from others and implement best practice locally.
- Experience of developing strategy, plans, compelling reports, briefings, presentations, and business cases for a range of audiences.
- Able to prioritise appropriately and manage the time of him/herself and his / her team effectively, which includes managing multiple projects and initiatives simultaneously, whilst working to tight schedules.
- Excellent IT skills, including in the use of a range of Microsoft Office products.
- A midwifery/health visiting/early years educator qualification is essential. BFI BreastFeeding and Relationship Building and/or a Lactation Consultant Qualification is desirable.
