The Role & Key Responsibilities

This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a team in law enforcement. We're looking for enthusiastic individuals to join our busy Information Access Team, providing a customer focused service that responds to requests for information from various organisations and members of the public, and building positive collaborative working relationships within Sussex Police and with external organisations.
We are looking for motivated individuals who are capable of using their initiative to proactively manage cases within our department to a successful conclusion, whilst providing advice and guidance to requestors to ensure they pursue the correct route dependent on the type of disclosure they require
This role provides an excellent opportunity to develop a strong understanding of applying data protection legislation, Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and Environmental Information Regulation (EIR) legislation, through to analysing and evaluating information received from sources across Sussex Police, and considering public interest and harm where appropriate, prior to providing disclosure of information. There will also be an opportunity to provide information to the courts and to support other processes.
The role also provides assistance and administrative support to the Data Protection Officer and Information Access Manager, ensuring all disclosures and duties are accurately completed within their statutory time limit.
Full training will be provided, with further opportunities to develop knowledge and skills and work towards recognised qualifications.
This role will be based at Sussex Police HQ, Lewes. To support the force's commitment to provide an agile and flexible workforce, once trained, you will have the opportunity to work flexibly at home or away from your normal place of work some of the time where appropriate.
Skills & Experience
Essential Qualifications:
▫ Educated to A to C in GCSEs English and Mathematics or equivalent.
Essential Knowledge and Experience:
▫ Demonstrate understanding of relevant legislation (Data Protection Act, MOPI and Freedom of Information Act)
▫ Maintain a high degree of integrity when dealing with sensitive and classified information
▫ Strong IT knowledge including Microsoft Office and SharePoint.
▫ Good planning and organising skills and a proven ability to work under pressure, dealing with conflicting demands in order to meet agreed deadlines.
▫ Demonstrate the importance of delivering excellent 'customer service' and being a confident communicator.
▫ Possess well developed written skills, demonstrating the ability to produce clear, concise and accurate documentation.
▫ Well-developed interpersonal skills, together with excellent verbal and written communication skills. English spelling and grammar need to be of a very high standard.
▫ Ability to work under own initiative and with minimal supervision.
▫ Strong attention to detail.
▫ Applicants will be required to obtain and maintain vetting status to HM Government Standards set out in the Manual of Protective Security to the required level for this post.
Desirable Knowledge and Experience:
▫ Qualification in Information Handling or Criminal Justice, or demonstrable experience.
BCS/ISEB Certification in Freedom of Information or Data Protection.
