Job description

Join our team at the Guardian and be a part of a diverse and inclusive global organisation that delivers fearless, investigative journalism, and holds power to account. Our team of award-winning journalists, cutting-edge commercial professionals, and industry-leading digital experts are committed to making a difference and represent a wide range of backgrounds and perspectives. We offer a challenging and exciting environment for career development, with a focus on training, growth and fostering an inclusive culture.

We’re looking for an Infrastructure & Cloud Architect to play a pivotal role in developing scalable, secure, and reliable systems that support our business objectives. This will involve creation of technology roadmaps for the Infrastructure Domain within Enterprise Technology, identification and management of technical debt and associated risks as well as providing recommendations to future proof the technology estate.

We’re embarking on the next phase of a major transformation programme which focuses on building a new Enterprise Architecture function to own the strategies and drive an architecture led approach to transformation.

This role will see you support the delivery of our Technology Strategy through the Technology Transformation Programme.

About the Role:

  • Understand and map the current GNM infrastructure landscape
  • Build and maintain stakeholder relationships within IT and relevant teams, helping to analyse business requirements and map them into models and designs.
  • Lead the decision-making process around Infrastructure and Cloud and make recommendations to effectively fulfil business requirements
  • Create a roadmap and document key transition states for delivery of strategic technology outcomes
  • Support project teams by developing or reviewing solution designs for scalable and reliable infrastructure that leverages cloud technologies
  • Develop infrastructure automation strategies using tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or CloudFormation
  • Create technical documentation for development solutions, future reference and reporting
  • Work collaboratively with other technology functional areas to seek out or propose re-use opportunities from the wider organisation as solutions to business needs, based on strategic direction and priorities

About You:

  • Extensive experience in infrastructure architecture and design, with a focus on cloud technologies
  • Demonstrable experience of EA methodologies (e.g. TOGAF)
  • Extensive hands-on experience with cloud platforms.
Cloud Solution Architect certification (preferably AWS)
  • Demonstrated ability to assess needs of the relevant internal teams, creatively approach solutions, decide and influence appropriate courses of action
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to articulate complex technical ideas in easy to understand business terms

We’re operating in a hybrid working model with a mix of office based and remote based work. You'll be expected to come into our London office 2 - 3 days a week.

We value and respect all differences (seen and unseen) in all people. We aspire to have inclusive working experiences and an environment that reflects the audience we serve, where our people have equal access to career development opportunities, their voices are heard and can contribute to our future. We actively encourage applications from people of all backgrounds. Many of our staff work flexibly and we will consider all requests for flexible working arrangements.

How to Apply

To apply, please upload your latest CV and a cover letter which outlines why you’d love to take on this role, and why you’re a great match for what we’re looking for.

All roles at the Guardian are open for everybody to apply. It is important to us that you feel supported and comfortable throughout your recruitment process, in order to perform your best. Please let us know if there are any changes we could make to the application process to make it easier and more comfortable for you.
