Infrastructure Engineer

Salary: £40,877 FTE per annum
37 hours per week, 52 weeks per year
As our Infrastructure Engineer, you will assist in the management and maintenance of all the Hull College ICT infrastructure in conjunction with the Director of ICT Services and ICT Team. Ensure that the College Network, Wi-Fi, Virtual Infrastructure is available at all times for staff and students subject to service level agreements, and a robust Backup and Disaster Recovery process is in place and regular tested and documented.
The post holder will Assist in the secure design and planning of enhancements and upgrades of the College infrastructure in accordance with the appropriate Hull College strategies.

Responsibilities of our Infrastructure Engineer:
Managing the College infrastructure. Developing and maintaining schedules and procedures. Approving equipment and software upgrades and modifications. Monitoring system performance, recommending equipment modifications and changes to operating procedures, servicing methods and schedules.
Supporting the Director of ICT Services in the planning, design and implementation of enhancements to the network and systems, ensuring its capacity to meet demand.
Drafting and maintaining procedures and documentation for network and system support. Training and supervising other technicians in network and system support operation, support and maintenance.
Responsible for ensuring the security of the College networks and system including audit controls, backup/recovery routines and contingency procedures.
Annual testing of the College Disaster Recovery process along with other members of the ICT Team.
Ensure that the appropriate action is taken to investigate and resolve incidents in the network infrastructure, with root cause analysis and reporting.
Ensures that all requests for support are dealt with according to set standards and procedures through the helpdesk support desk.
Responsible for the support of college network backup/recovery systems and documented process.
Liaises with other ICT staff and external partners to provide an efficient and effective customer oriented service.
To carry out all work with due regard to legal requirements of software license arrangements and agreed protocols for the use of the academic network.
Ensure server operating systems are infrastructure is at all times Cyber Essentials compliant.
What we’re looking for in our Infrastructure Engineer:
Demonstrable educational background to HND/Degree level or professional training such as MCP/MCTS or equivalent.
Evidence of continuing professional development.
Knowledge of Network infrastructure systems and devices such as Firewalls, servers, SAN, web proxies
Able to demonstrate ability to support Server operating systems, SAN, virtual environments and networking technologies -
Knowledge of LAN/WAN and IP technologies
